Did you know…?
Clear the Shelters will be on Aug. 29?
Dear Citizens,
Typically in my monthly column, I try to focus on upcoming public meetings along with creative events from
our staff. This time, I think it’s best to focus on the Euless Police Department and the important job they do to
provide safety for Euless residents every day. The Euless Police Department has been at the forefront of building
relationships and providing social services in the Euless community for well over 25 years. Their effort to build
relationships in Euless begins with the free Euless Police Summer Camp that is traditionally offered for two weeks
at the beginning of summer. This program is actually more fun for our Police Officers than the kids, but don’t tell
anyone. They care deeply about the youth of Euless and want to see them head down the right path in life.
In 2018 the EPIC (Euless Police Inspiring Champions) program began. Our Police Officers go into every single Euless elementary
school during the school year for two full days to encourage students to stay healthy and physically fit, but while they’re there, they are
again building those relationships with our youth.
Anyone who has read Euless Today will know that we partner heavily with 6 Stones and that is most evident in the CPR Program.
Euless Police and Fire employees volunteer to help Euless residents repair their homes. This may be building a new fence, hauling off
heavy items from a backyard, painting or yard work. They will tell you it’s always a lot of work and 100% worth it at the end of the day.
They also work the Back to School event and Night of Hope to provide Christmas for children in HEB.
In response to the growing mental health concerns in our community, we partnered with Hurst and Bedford to create a Mental Health
Liaison as well as funded a Mental Health Police Officer in Euless. These individuals go out on calls to those experiencing mental
health issues and then connect them with the proper resources to attempt to resolve the problems. We also have funded a Crime Victim
Coordinator that can help our residents navigate the legal system and find the resources they need after experiencing some sort of
violent crime.
Our Neighborhood Police unit has purchased a concession trailer that they keep fully stocked with ice cream and games. They visit
apartment communities, schools and special events in it to continue to build those relationships in our community. They also teach free
Rape Aggression Defense classes throughout the year.
Our dedication and focus is on serving our community. The diversity of Euless is our greatest attribute. I have loved being able to visit
different churches and community groups to learn about their heritage and cultures. We will always continue to self-examine and see
what new steps we can take to continue to improve our wonderful community.

After a two-year, massive renovation, the Mary Lib Saleh Euless Public Library has moved from its temporary location on Westpark Way to its permanent home on North Ector Drive. The library is truly spectacular and has amenities and services for people of all ages.
The new floor plan includes a conference room, a teen room, a lounge, reading areas, meeting rooms and even five study rooms that can be reserved. There are also plenty of extra outlets for visitors to plug in their devices and new self-service options.
The new children’s area has dedicated literacy classrooms, learning toys and computers. In addition, the library has a national Family Place Library distinction, which means it is a community center offering amenities to promote literacy, early childhood development, parent education and engagement, family support and community information.

More Road Construction is Complete
After many months of dealing with construction trucks, lane closures and other driving aggravations, we can
breathe a sigh of relief, since much of the road construction in our area is now complete!
• Bear Creek Parkway from Mid-Cities Boulevard
to Harwood Road
• Ash Lane from Fuller Wiser to SH 360
• Fuller Wiser Road from SH 183 to Midway Drive
Besides providing a smoother ride, the newly- surfaced streets increase safety, reduce future maintenance
costs and enhance the appearance of our community.

Harwood Road
• Midway Drive from just east of International
Boulevard to just west of Fuller Wiser Road
New Fire Station
Coming to Ash Lane
The City of Euless is constructing a new facility to replace Fire Station 1 located at 201 East Ash Lane. It will take
approximately 24 months to demolish the 35-year-old structure and build a new one. The larger and improved station
will allow the Fire Department to maintain a quick response time and excellent service within an area that is experiencing
strong residential and business expansion.
As Euless continues to grow and increase in residential population, as well as commercial buildings north of the
freeway, we want to ensure that this area of the City will not be underserved by Fire, Emergency Medical and Rescue
resources. Rebuilding Station 1 will allow Euless to add personnel, apparatus and capability to the north section of town
in order to better support that growth.
“The major goal for rebuilding Fire Station 1 is to be able to support the growth of the City north of the Airport
Freeway,” says Fire Chief Wes Rhodes.
The new facility will include four double-deep bays to accommodate an aerial ladder truck, fire engine and ambulance.
Additional bay space will provide room to house reserve vehicles and equipment. The station will also have living
quarters and operation offices for the staff. During the construction phase, Fire Station 1 will be temporarily located at
501 West Harwood Road. We anticipate construction to be completed in 2022.

The former Softball World is undergoing an exciting transformation that players and spectators can all appreciate
beginning with converting the dirt infields to synthetic turf. Beyond improvements to the fields, the City of
Euless is also constructing a new building to house concessions and restrooms.
Big Changes Happening at the Parks at Texas Star
Improvements include installing new:
• Synthetic turf infields to replace existing fields
• Natural grass outfields
• Irrigation system
• Fencing
• Dugouts
• Backstops
• LED lighting
• Facility for concessions and restrooms
“Synthetic turf drains quicker than natural turf, so replacing the infields with synthetic turf will help us avoid long rain
delays,” says Director of Parks & Community Services Ray McDonald. “We are also changing the name, Softball World, to
the Parks at Texas Star to reflect all the changes we’re making. The Parks at Texas Star Sports Complex is expanding with a
focus on youth sports.”
With the growing number of participants in youth baseball, renovating the existing infields with synthetic turf will allow
staff the opportunity to expand existing youth leagues as well as continue programming for adult softball leagues.
