The project is slated for completion in early 2021. Replacing the outdated Far North and Fuller wells will reduce maintenance and repair costs. It will also enhance the drinking water, making the flavor more consistent. “The water is safe to drink, but because of the way we have to blend the water, the taste varies,” says Hal Cranor, Director of Public Works. The City only produces about 20 percent of its water from three wells. The remainder of the water comes from the Trinity River Authority (TRA). Did you know…? City offices will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day? Trash and recycling services will not be affected. July WATER 817-685-1471 September July WATER 817-685-1471 The taste of the water changes from time to time as a result of blending the two water sources using old equipment and wells. The new water production equipment will provide a consistent blend and consistent flavor. Euless once had many wells. Over time, the City abandoned all but three of them: the Far North, Fuller and North Main water wells. These three wells tap into the Trinity Aquifer. There is a four-stage construction process for each well:• Plug existing well and set up drilling equipment• Drill and test new well• Install new, above-ground pumping equipment• Test and cleanup Construction on the new Far North and Fuller wells is progressing nicely. The construction company will soon be installing the new pumping equipment on both wells. The replacement wells are located at the same site as the original wells. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Northern Trinity Groundwater Conservation District (NTGCD) have approved the plans for the replacement wells. In addition, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is supporting this project by providing funds totaling $9.2 million. July WATER 817-685-1471 The City of Euless will be accepting applications for volunteer positions on various Boards and Commissions in September. Time and frequency of meetings vary, depending upon the board or commission on which you serve. City Council Seeking Board and Commission Members Support Your Local Businesses This pandemic is putting a lot of pressure on our economy. No matter their size, many of the local companies that we love are in danger of disappearing forever. Your favorite restaurants, retail stores or service providers need our help to stay afloat. Although they are doing their best to adapt to these new conditions, such as offering takeout, curbside delivery or home delivery – they need us to make it work. If you are in a position to do so, please support our local businesses. Buying local has a positive effect on our community. When we spend our dollars locally, we help commercial entities, their employees and our neighbors. Should I Flush It? Just because you can flush it, doesn’t mean you should! Although many items claim to be flushable, there are only “three p’s” that you should flush: • Paper (toilet paper only)• Pee• Poo Even though some wipes and paper products are advertised as “flushable,” they aren’t. Sure, they will flush down, but they won’t flush OUT. They can clog your pipes, resulting in a costly plumbing bill. They can also cause a sanitary sewer overflow into your house (or apartment), somewhere along the line of pipes throughout the City or at the wastewater treatment facility. And, because wipes won’t decompose, they get caught in wastewater treatment plant screens and filters, which cost money to clear and repair. When it comes to the toilet, stick to the “three p’s.” Toss those wipes and other items in the trash can. You will help protect our water quality and environment, as well as prevent costly water treatment plant repairs. Learn more from Patty Potty at the Save the Water Texas Coalition website, SaveWaterTexas.org. Wipes clog wastewater intake grates at the Trinity River Authority Wastewater Plant on an daily/hourly basis. July WATER 817-685-1471 Crud Day Cancelled in Fall As a safety precaution for our volunteers, the City of Euless is cancelling the fall Crud Day. In the meantime, you may deliver your waste materials to the Environmental Collection Center (ECC) at 6400 Bridge Street in east Fort Worth. The ECC is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and accepts automotive fluids, cleaning chemicals, cooking oil, lawn/pool chemicals, lightbulbs, batteries, paint and painting supplies. (Empty paint cans and cans containing dry laytex paint may be safely disposed in your regular trash pickup.) Keep in mind, the City of Euless is charged $50 per car, so please make sure you are maximizing your trip when you go. In addition, the ECC has a Help-Yourself-Shelf. Chemicals, cleaners and paint in “like new” condition are offered free of charge. If you have a product that is still usable, give it to someone who can use it instead of bringing it for disposal. For more information on the ECC and what it accepts, please call 817-392-1234 or visit: FortWorthTexas. gov/env/ecc. Utilizing two companies for collection can cause some confusion from time to time, particularly with boxes. In addition, Euless is the only City in Texas that allows its residents a choice in how they would like to recycle. We hope these tips will be a good reminder of these services and your options. Recycling You have three container choices for recyclable materials: blue bags, a 15-gallon bin or a 65-gallon cart. The base rate for recycling is $1.44 per month and allows you to use blue bags. Blue bags are not recyclable and must be purchased by the homeowner. A 15-gallon bin or 65-gallon cart both incur an additional monthly charge of $1.61 per month. You can request one to be delivered to your home at no cost to you. Recycling Recycling is single stream and items don’t have to be separated. However, all recyclable materials should be placed inside a blue recycling bag, green bin or rolling cart to avoid confusion. It’s best to place flattened, clean cardboard boxes inside the bag, bin or cart, if possible. If not, place the recycling bag or bin on top of the cardboard to prevent it from being picked up with the garbage collection or blown down the street. If there are too many cardboard boxes to fit in the rolling cart, flatten them and place them as close to the recycling container as possible. Garbage Trash is picked up twice a week. Bagging your trash and securely tying it helps to prevent unintentional litter. You have the option of placing these bags in a container or stacking the plastic garbage bags at the curb. Some cardboard boxes aren’t recyclable. If they are greasy, wet or dirty from other items, they are considered trash and can be placed with your trash receptacle. Likewise, the packing material that is sometimes inside boxes is considered trash, such as Styrofoam, packing peanuts, plastic bubble wrap, etc. When placing garbage and recycling out for pick up, it is helpful to place them at least 10 feet apart. That helps the drivers avoid confusion and know if items like boxes are intended for trash or recycling.
