Parks and Leisure Services Board
September 10, 2012
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on
Monday, September 10, 2012, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Vice
Chairman John Raab. Other Board Members present: Carroll Scott, Randy Jones, Darrel Knobloch,
and alternate Tiffany Smith. Members absent: Travis Riffle and alternate Carl Miller.
(Note: Chairman Owens arrived at 7:10 p.m.)
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager
Randy Smith, Recreation Superintendent Michael Davenport and Administrative Secretary Linda
Lux.
Visitors present: Victoria Clayton (Palisades at Bear Creek Apartments).
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Vice Chairman Raab asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
August 6, 2012 regular meeting. Darrel Knobloch made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by Carroll Scott. The vote was unanimous. (Note: Chairman Owens
was not present)
I. Board Member's Reports
Carroll Scott— McCormick Park, Preserve at McCormick Park— reported no items of concern
John Raab - Parks at Texas Star Athletic Complex— reported no items of concern

II. Volunteer of the Month
Vice Chairman Raab said the September 2012 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Sara Kercho
and the Trinity High School Cheerleaders. Our September nomination is a young lady that jumped
in to help with this year's Arbor Daze Festival, and she submitted the help from the young ladies
under her charge. She coordinated approximately 30 of her cheerleaders to work, and she
committed them for both Saturday and Sunday of our event. Vice Chairman Raab said the plaque
would be delivered to the school since she was not able to attend the meeting.
III. Beautification Award of the Month
Vice Chairman Raab said the September 2012 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes
to Mr. Abinaya Khatry at 1005 High Hawk Trail. This yard has a well-manicured lawn, with colorful
roses, petunias and an assortment of bedding plants. They have also planted crepe myrtles, red
oaks and live oaks which are a great attraction to the neighborhood. The owners take great pride
in the work that has been done in their yard. Thank you for helping to beautify our city. Vice
Chairman Raab said their plaque would be delivered to them since they are not present.
Vice Chairman Raab presented the September 2012 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification
Award of the Month to The Palisades at Bear Creek Apartment Homes. They have planted crepe
myrtles, periwinkles, and an assortment of fountain grass on the property. The property is well
manicured with hedges and lots of mature oaks, elms and cypress trees which is a great attraction
to their residents. It is efforts like yours that make Euless a great place to work and live. Thank
you for contributing to the beautification of our city. Property Manager Victoria Clayton was
present to receive the award and said they are very excited about this award as well as her
landscaping manager.

Recreation Superintendent Michael Davenport reported on the following:
• Heritage Museum grand opening
• Upcoming special events- September and October
• Kenny Marchant's Veteran's Fair- November
• Senior Center
b. Parks Report— Randy Smith
Parks Manager Randy Smith reported on the following:
• Bob Eden Park
• Assisting Public Works with mosquito bait in parks
• Trail repairs
• Employee of the Month for September— Derrick Fennell
c. Community Services Report— Ray McDonald
Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald reported on the following:
• Euless Family Life Center Aquatics Center
• Tennis courts removed
• Master Plan

Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports.
VI. Other New Business
Chairman Owens reminded the Board Members to review the Parks Master Plan and send any
changes or concerns to Ray for input or recommendation to the plan. He mentioned adding the
Parks Master Plan for recommendation to the city council at the November meeting.
VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
There was no input from the audience.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
