Regular Meeting
Euless City Council
December 6, 1954
The City Council met in regular session
at 7:30 p.m., December 6 7 1954. Present were Mayor J. J. Umphress and
Councilmen A. E. Tillery, Ernest Millican, Jr., and J.S.,Anderson.
Mintues of the previous meetings on
October 4, 1954, and October 19, 1954, were read and unanimously approved.
Next in order of business was a joint
meeting with the building committee from the Fire Department. Present as
members of t h i s committee were B i l l y Lee Byers, A. T. Sellers, and L. W.
Morelock. The purpose of this meeting was to survey the possibilities
of a definite agreement as to joint action in the financing of a proposed
building for use as a community center and fire hall.
Mayor Umphress pointed out the fact that
the City could not legally take any part in financing such a structure
so long as the City and the Fire Department are two separate organizations.
He then specifically advised the committee that the existing situation could
be corrected by the Fire Department passing a resolution requesting the City
to pass an ordinance taking the Fire Department into the City;
After considerable discussion, the Committee
and the Council retired to a joint meeting with the Fire Department which
was in session.
Later in the evening, the Council again
assembled and Mayor Umphress appointed two Councilmen to serve with two men
to be selected by the Firemen composing a building committee. Councilmen
Anderson and Tillery were appointed.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
