Minutes
November 12, 2012
CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Bill Golden, called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. The meeting was held at Euless City Hall,
201 North Ector Drive, Euless, TX.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Perry Brockmeyer, Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Barbara Collier, Iris
Elliott, Betty Fuller, Helen Gleghorn, Bill Golden, Norma Lively, Don Martin, David Massey, Veva Lou
Massey, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Peggy Vandiver and Mavy Wright.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Don Martin made a motion to approve the minutes. Doris Brown seconded the motion. Motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer, Barbara Collier, reported the beginning balance for September was $6,348.64 with
expenditures of$179.72 and deposits totaling $63. The ending balance for September was $6,231.92.
There weren't any transactions between then and now. The balance remains $6,231.92.
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. Open house on October 13, 2012—Norma Lively was a docent during open house. Approximately
sixty-five people toured the facilities that day. The Greek food festival was also on the same day.
2. South Euless toured Heritage Park on October 17, 2012; there were one-hundred and twenty people.
3. Midway Park toured on November 6, 2012. One hundred and forty people toured that day.
4. North Euless toured Heritage Park on November 7, 2012; there were one-hundred and thirty people.
5. Wilshire Elementary will tour the facilities on November 15, 2012. Faye Stinneford, Betty Fuller,
Michele Burger may attend for one hour, David and Veva Lou Massey, Perry Brockmeyer and Doris
Brown volunteered to serve as docents.
6. Forty-two people toured Heritage Park during open house on November 10, 2012.
7. The following people volunteered to work during Heritage Park Christmas: Peggy Vandiver, Joe
Cannon, Shirley Mercer, Doris Brown, Iris Elliott, and Betty Fuller, Norma Lively, Michelle and

Dan Burger, Mavy Wright, Helen Payton, David and Veva Lou Massey, Weldon Cannon, Bill
Golden and Don Martin. Mavy Wright will call reminders to everyone who volunteered.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Acquisition-
• Trinity High School donated approximately thirty year books and ten Labyrinths. Some
discussion was held regarding the best way to display the year books including copying them.
• Recently acquired a Navy uniform along with other artifacts.
• Still need a Marine uniform.
• Council Member Leon Hogg reported that two display cases were acquired from the Greek
Orthodox Church for a$50 donation.
2. Display Signs—Work is ongoing; Mavy Wright thanked the staff for helping with the project.
Barbara Collier suggested using larger font on the descriptions. She also suggested a numbering
system between the artifacts and a description sheet to include additional information.
3. McCormick Barn—Members will work on the Barn after the holidays. It will be locked during
Christmas in the Park.
4. Museum Set Up—A workday was scheduled for November 28, 2012 to complete various projects.
Helen Payton reported that photos of Henry and R.E. Usselton were recently acquired.
5. Website and Internet Updates—no update. Gary Fieldsend is available to docent any weekend. He
also works on other projects for the Committee but is unavailable to attend the meetings due to work.
6. Evolving History—Veva Lou Massey thanked Barbara Collier for doing a great job on the project.
7. Euless Marker Program—Weldon Cannon will finish working on the Himes House and Fuller House
markers. When he is done, staff will continue the process to acquire the medallion plaque and
descriptive plaque.
8. Scrapbook Sub-committee—Betty Fuller and Helen Gleghorn will work on the project soon. The
Sub-committee will also be in charge of the large poster display. Barbara Collier volunteered to join
the Sub-committee and work on the chart. Doris Brown is also a member of the Sub-committee.
9. Himes Log House—The handrails on both sides of the building are loose and need to be repaired.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. December's annual luncheon meeting will be at the Golf Course. Members are to RSVP to Mary.
2. Mavy Wright will be in charge of signing up docent volunteers and reminding them before their
work day.
3. Researched estimates for printing post cards to sell advertisement for the Euless Museum. Will
report back to the Committee.
4. Asked for an open house banner to go in front of the Museum.
5. Scheduled a tour of the Greek Orthodox Church for November 14, 2012.

6. Invited Tom and Sue Stover to the Christmas luncheon. The Stover's expressed interest in possibly
working more with the Committee.
7. Will update the Sub-committee list and give copies to the members.
8. Asked if the members were interested in taking tours of various historical locations in the area. The
members were very interested in the idea.
9. Working on acquiring permission to cross Viridian property to tour Bird's Fort.
10. Working on acquiring permission to use metal detectors on the property on the southwest corner of
Hwy. 10 and Cullum Drive. This was the location of the first Euless school.
STAFF REPORTS
1. Staff reported the following:
• Michael Davenport is no longer with the City and Suzanne Hendrickson will be back with the
City on December 3, 2012.
• Researching costs for the display brochure previously discussed by the Committee.
• Lynne Moffat donated two old t-shirts to the Museum.
• Currently working on the "How We Lived"brochure.
• Transcription of Bill Byers' oral history interview has begun.
• Will move the corn grinder into the Barn for Christmas in the Park.
OTHER REPORTS
1. Barbara Collier discussed her recent tour of the Adam House in Deadwood, South Dakota.
2. Weldon Cannon read descriptions of the differences between a log house and a log cabin. He
indicated the need to use the correct terminology when referring to the Himes Log House.
Sometimes the Himes House is referred to as a log cabin.
3. Joe Cannon donated a cattle skull to go in the Barn.
4. Doris Brown recognized Perry Brockmeyer for all his help during tours. He also helped carry a girl
in a wheelchair up the Log House during one of the tours.
5. Michele Burger had several items to donate to the museum, including photos, letters, newspaper, etc.
ADJOURNMENT
Peggy Vandiver made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Betty Fuller seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:33 a.m.
