Parks and Leisure Services Board
November 5, 2012
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. on
Monday, November 5, 2012, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: Carroll Scott, Randy Jones, Darrel Knobloch, John
Raab, and alternate Tiffany Smith. Members absent: alternate Carl Miller.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager
Randy Smith, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Supervisor Heidi Taylor, Athletic
Supervisor John Douthit, Athletic Coordinator Mike McMacken, and Administrative Secretary
Linda Lux.
Visitors present: Magen Morton, Garry Pearson (BESA) and Steve and Loretta Doty.
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
October 1, 2012 regular meeting. Darrel Knobloch asked that corrections be made to Page 2, First
Paragraph be changed to read "Travis Riffle and Carl Miller" not "Travis and Carl". Randy Jones
seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.

Chairman Owens reported on Special Events:
• Stars Over Euless—Saturday, October 6— Bob Eden Park- 70 in attendance
• Fitness Fun Run —Saturday, October 13—9:30 a.m. — Bob Eden Park— 150 in attendance
Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports.
II. Volunteer of the Month
Chairman Owens said the November 2012 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Magen Morton.
Our November nomination is a young lady that has recently joined our Family of Volunteers. She
helped with the first ever Family Fun Run, by helping to set-up the event, and by taking pictures of
our participants as they made their way through our events exercise stations. In addition, she has
been an assistant coach for the Girls on the Run Program. She volunteers on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings — which is a ten (10) week program. She helps to teach the kids the
importance of healthy living, and making good life decisions. She makes lessons fun and works
with each girl individually, and helps them to accomplish their goals. Magen thanked the Board
for the award.
III. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported on the following for October 15t—31St:

• There were no trees planted and no tree related purchases
IV. Athletic Associations
a. BESA (Bedford Euless Soccer Association)
BESA President Garry Pearson gave an update on the finances of the association as well as
the number of players for the Fall 2012 soccer season. He also mentioned that Euless has
the most residents participating in the league. The spring season is scheduled to begin
February 23rd and will end May 18th and registration is already underway and opened on
November 1st. They are expecting to register approximately 1,000 players. Mr. Pearson
also distributed a hand out with financials for the Board Members to review.
b. PATS (Parks at Texas Star) Baseball Update
Athletic Supervisor John Douthit gave an update on the leagues for the current year. He
mentioned the numbers for the select teams was down this year due to the reclassification
of some AA teams by USSSA.
V. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Recreation Report— Heidi Taylor
Recreation Supervisor Heidi Taylor reported on the following:

b. Parks Report— Randy Smith
Parks Manager Randy Smith reported on the following:
• Parking lot construction on the south side of the Parks at Texas Star
• Fall color change outs
• Erecting the Christmas tree and new Christmas decorations at city hall
c. Community Services Report— Ray McDonald
Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald reported on the following:
• Senior Luncheon — November 14th
• Closures for the Euless Family Life Center and Senior Center
• Christmas Parade— December 1st
• Heritage Park Christmas Celebration —December 8th
• Staff changes
Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports.
VI. Other New Business
Chairman Owens mentioned that the December 3rd meeting will be at the Parks Department.
Reminded the Board Members of the upcoming parade and asked them to let Linda Lux know if
they will be riding in the parade and the number of family members.
Chairman Owens also asked Linda Lux if she would email the Board Members the November and
December calendar for the holiday closures. He stated that Board Members need more time to
review the Parks Master Plan and if it could be added to the January agenda for consideration.

There was no input from the audience.

Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
