HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-12-03 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board December 3, 2012 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012, in the large Conference Room at the Parks Facility Building, located at 1997-C South Pipeline Road by Chairman Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: Carroll Scott, Randy Jones, Darrel Knobloch, John Raab, and alternate Tiffany Smith. Members absent: alternate Carl Miller. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Randy Smith, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Construction/Landscape Foreman Dan Dearborn, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, and Administrative Secretary Linda Lux. Visitors present: Council Member Leon Hogg. INVOCATION Chairman Owens gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the November 5, 2012 regular meeting. Darrel Knobloch made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Carroll Scott. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member's Reports Carroll Scott— McCormick Park, Preserve at McCormick Park— reported no items of concern John Raab—The Parks at Texas Star (Athletic Complex) — reported no items of concern Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 December 3, 2012 Darrel Knobloch - Bob Eden Park, Trailwood Park— reported no items of concern Darrel Knobloch— Reflection Park, Villages of Bear Creek Park—reported no items of concern Tiffany Smith —West Park, Wilshire Park— reported no items of concern Randy Jones- Midway Park, Blessing Branch Park— reported no items of concern Randy Jones—South Euless Park, Heritage Park—reported no items of concern Chairman Owens—J. A. Carr Park, Kiddie Carr Park—reported no items of concern Chairman Owens reported on Special Events: • Senior Luncheon was held on November 14th and there were over 300 that attended. North Main Barbecue served the annual luncheon. • Christmas Parade was this past Saturday and there were lots of great entries. • Heritage Park Christmas Celebration is this Saturday, December 8th - 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports. II. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported on the following for November 1st—30th: Total man hours- 606.00 o 118.00 Horticulture o 50.00 Forestry o 72.00 Greenhouse o 350.00 Special Projects o 16 .00 Training • There were no trees planted and one (1)tree related purchase Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 3 December 3, 2012 III. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Community Services Report— Ray McDonald Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald reported on the following: • Aquatics Facility • Family Life Center Open House—January 5th • Christmas Tree Recycling event—January 5th Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports. IV. Other New Business Chairman Owens mentioned he will work on the new 2013 Park Assignments and they will be emailed to the Board Members so they will have them for the January meeting. The next meeting will be January 7th and officers will also be elected at that meeting. V. Input from City Council Members and Visitors Council Member Leon Hogg wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
