HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-01-07 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board January 7, 2013 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: Carroll Scott, Randy Jones, and alternate Steve Doty. Members absent: Darrel Knobloch,John Raab, Tiffany Smith and alternate Carl Miller. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson and Administrative Secretary Linda Lux. Visitors present: Randall Sowa and members of Santa USA. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the December 3, 2012 regular meeting. Randy Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Carroll Scott. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member's Reports Carroll Scott— McCormick Park, Preserve at McCormick Park— reported no items of concern Steve Doty—J. A. Carr Park, Kiddie Carr Park— reported no items of concern Randy Jones—South Euless Park, Heritage Park—reported no items of concern Chairman Owens—West Park, Wilshire Park— reported no items of concern Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 January 7, 2013 Chairman Owens—The Parks at Texas Star (Athletic Complex)— reported no items of concern Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports. II. Volunteer of the Month Chairman Owens said the January 2013 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Randall Sowa and the members of Santa USA. Our January nomination is a local group that has been a part of our Christmas Parade of Lights for many years. They are a group that began in the mid-seventies that started as a personal project to bring happiness, goodwill and the Christmas Spirit to children, the infirmed and the elderly in our community. Also for the last several years, they have participated in our Christmas Parade and they gladly carried our city council and have represented our city well. Randall Sowa thanked the Board Members for the award. Ill. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported on the following for December 15t—31St: Total man hours- 581.00 o 256.00 Horticulture o 163.00 Forestry o 78.00 Greenhouse o 84.00 Special Projects o 0 Training • There were no trees planted and no tree related purchases IV. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson had no report tonight. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 3 January 7, 2013 b. Parks Report— Randy Smith Parks Manager Randy Smith was not in attendance. c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald reported on the following: • Construction contract for the indoor pool and related structures will be on tomorrow night's agenda • Master Plan — hopes to finalize the Master Plan and have it ready for the Board Members to review within the next couple of months • Work is ongoing on the parking lot at the Parks at Texas Star and will be ready for opening day • The backside of the fences facing the new parking lot will be included in the painting project to be done before park opens for the season • Light poles at West Park were recently painted Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports. V. Election of Officers Chairman Owens mentioned it was time to elect officers for 2013. Carroll Scott made the motion to move the Election of Officers to the February meeting so more Board Members would be in attendance and was seconded by Randy Jones. The vote was unanimous. VI. Other New Business Chairman Owens said there was no new business for discussion. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors There was no input from the audience.
