MEETING OF FEBRUARY 7, 2013

The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00
p.m. at Bedford City Hall on the 7th day of February 2013, with the following members present:
HURST: Phoebe Soward, Tim Beard, Jason Bess
EULESS: Renu Sloan, Priscilla Cauley, Warren Wilson, Julie Davis

CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Renu Sloan called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with a quorum of nine Board
Members present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes:
a) January 3, 2013 regular meeting.
Minutes of the January 3, 2013 Regular Board Meeting were reviewed. Priscilla Cauley made a
motion to accept the minutes and Kathleen Toms seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
2. Discuss items as they relate to the annual Teen Court Scholarship Banquet.
The 2013 HEB Teen Court Scholarship Banquet will be held on Thursday, April 25, at the Hurst
Conference Center, 1601 Campus Drive, Hurst, Texas 76054.The cost per ticket last year was $15.00
and there was a discussion to keep that price or change the price or the possibility of a sponsorship for
the cost of the teen's tickets? This discussion was tabled until the next meeting. Walmart in Bedford
donated a $50 gift card to HEB Teen Court and a suggestion was made of using the gift card for the
upcoming scholarship banquet as a silent auction item or to assist with the expenses of the banquet. It
was a unanimous vote to table this discussion until the next meeting in March. Teen Court Coordinator
Mindy Eichorst mentioned that the Hurst Conference Center approved the idea of having a live puppy
auction as long as the puppy was caged. A brief biography of the speaker was handed out to board
members and Chairperson Renu Sloan spoke a little more about him. There was a unanimous vote of
having Mickey Clarke as the speaker for the 2013 Teen Court Banquet Scholarship. It was brought up
if anyone knew a person who could lead in the invocation to inform the banquet committee. Vice
Chairperson Priscilla Cauley mentioned she knows the head chaplain at DFW Airport and will mention
something. Also, board member Warren Wilson mentioned he could lead the invocation. It was a
unanimous vote to table this discussion until the March board meeting.
3. Discuss ideas for fundraisers.
Board Member Phoebe Soward mentioned how the HEB Chamber of Commerce was not interested in
sponsoring the organization due to the large amount of organizations in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area.
Ms. Soward then mentioned she had left messages for one of the managers at R.J. Gators located in
Hurst and she is waiting to hear back from them. She thought she may ask to do a one-time fundraiser
and a gift card donation. A suggestion of Chick-Fil-A by Board Member Kathleen Toms and how there
are locations in both Hurst and in Euless. Another suggestion of Mooyah's Burgers in Euless by Board
Member Julie Davis was mentioned. Chairperson Renu Sloan mentioned Papa John's Pizza in
Bedford and that she spoke with a manager who stated 20 % of all business on any evening Tuesday,
Wednesday, or Thursday would be given back to the HEB Teen Court. Ms. Sloan also had spoken with
the Mayor of Euless about putting information on the back of the City of Euless water bill but the Mayor
suggested the Euless website or Teen Court website instead. Ms. Soward suggested putting a
message on the high school or middle school electronic marquee signs. She was going to look further
into that. Board Member Warren Wilson mentioned he is a mentor/speaker at Trojan Talk which is
located at Trinity High School. He thought any of these suggestions should be mentioned to the other
mentors/speakers and they pass the information along to the students.
4. Present information on progress of ByLaw changes.
All three cities, Hurst, Euless, and Bedford will present the amendments to the bylaws at their February
26 City Council Meeting respectively.
NEW BUSINESS
5. Introduce the new Teen Court Advisory Board Member.
A new Teen Court Advisory Board Member was present at this meeting. Ms. Julie Davis represents the
City of Euless as an alternate. Ms. Davis works for Mary Kay and also has her own business in Euless.
6. Discuss and possibly take action regarding the Teen Court scholarship applicant.
The Teen Court Scholarship Committee suggested to the board members that senior Taylor Demons
be awarded a scholarship of$1,000. Kathleen Toms motioned to accept that amount and Warren
Wilson seconded the motion and it was a unanimous vote.
7. Set a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board Meeting.
The next HEB Teen Court meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City
Hail upstairs conference room, 2000 Forest Ridge Drive.
REPORTS
Mindy Eichorst presented the Coordinator's Report and Financial Report for the month of January
2013.
ADJOURNMENT
Phoebe Soward entered a motion for the meeting to be adjourned. Warren Wilson seconded the motion
and all voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
