Minutes
February 11, 2013
CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Bill Golden, called the meeting to order at 10:04 a.m. The meeting was held at Euless City Hall,
201 North Ector Drive, Euless, TX.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Gary Barnhill, Perry Brockmeyer, Doris Brown, Bill Byers, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Barbara
Collier, Iris Elliott, Betty Fuller, Helen Gleghorn, Bill Golden, Norma Keplinger, Norma Lively, Don
Martin, David Massey, Robert Nail, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Faye Stinneford, Peggy Vandiver and
Mavy Wright.
RECOGNITION OF VISITORS
Council Member Leon Hogg, Jeff Miller and Andy Weinzapfel.
STAFF PRESENT

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
On page 3, under other reports, item #3, Weldon Cannon intends to donate the calendar, he has not donated
it. Peggy Vandiver made a motion to approve the minutes. Don Martin seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer, Barbara Collier, reported the beginning balance on January 14, 2013 was $11,482.47. There
was a deposit of$441.00 and expenditures of$254.29. The balance as of February 11, 2013 was
$11,669.18.
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. Meadow Creek Elementary did not show up for their tour on January 17, 2013. Bill Golden will
contact the school regarding the incident.
2. Members who served as docents during open house on Saturday, February 9, 2013 had a great time
visiting with each other. About four people visited the facilities that day.
3. Barbara Collier, Bill Byers, Norma Lively, Doris Brown, Peggy Vandiver, David Massey, Veva Lou
Massey and Mavy Wright volunteered to serve as docents during open house on March 9, 2013.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Acquisition Sub-committee—Bill Byers reported that several items were recently acquired including
a wooden yoke, old fruit jars, an old apron, JT Williams' WWII green drawers, etc. Council Member
Leon Hogg also donated various items.

2. Museum Set-up Committee—Barbara Collier reported that inventory of all artifacts in the Museum's
collection has begun.
3. Publicity Sub-Committee—The sub-committee met and came up with the following suggestions:
• Bookmarkers to go at the Library, post outdoor signs at various City locations, display brochures
at high traffic areas (including the Stockyard, hotels, city buildings, Texas Visitors Guide, etc.),
install signs on both sides of Highway 10, members to include notices on church newsletters,
have a Facebook page, email flyers to groups that committee members are involved with, include
write ups on police and fire organization newsletters, post signs at local restaurants and stores.
• Include a write up about the Euless Heritage Museum on the Euless website.
• Indicated the need for a volunteer to help maintain and update the website and photo accounts.
4. Evolving History—Veva Lou Massey reported she has photographs of the construction of the
aquatics center, photos of the apartment construction near Target and the construction of the new
Dairy Queen location.
5. Plaque Sub-committee: Faye Stinneford reported that memorials for Donna Mickan have been added
to the plaque. It was mentioned that Mr. Mickan may not be aware of the memorials received on
behalf of Donna Mickan. Barbara Collier will send the family a card along with some information
about the project.
6. Euless Marker Program—Weldon Cannon discussed the following:
• Displayed the completed local marker sign for the Cannon House.
• The medallion plaque cost approximately $250, the descriptive plaque cost approximately $250
and the post cost approximately $175. The shipping cost was around $85.
• Everything came separate but was very easy to assemble.
• The Fuller House and Himes Log House markers are being worked on.
• The McCormick Barn and the Museum also need markers.
• If a new, local foundry is to be used for future markers, the Committee should make sure the
same material and/or process is maintained.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Read a thank you note from Donna Mickan's husband with regards to her passing.
2. Mavy Wright acquired permission from the owners of the land at Bird's Fort for the committee to
visit the location. The Committee may tour the location after the April meeting.
3. Expressed appreciation for Mavy Wrights help with calling reminders to the docents.
STAFF REPORTS
1. Members were asked to RSVP for the Board & Commission dinner on Monday, February 25, 2013
at 6:30 p.m.
2. Gave a reminder about the Arbor Daze event. The Committee was asked to let staff know if they had
ideas for items to display, etc. and/or other suggestions.
OTHER REPORTS
1. Peggy Vandiver encountered a scary event that she wanted to caution the members about. She
reported that a man in a company uniform came to her house needing to inspect her meter. She

allowed him in the back yard and later noted that he got into a truck when he left. Later, she was
watching the news and they were reporting on a similar story where a man went to someone's house
requesting the same thing and proceeded to rob the homeowner. Don Martin cautioned the members
to call in suspicious situations for Police or Citizens Patrol to investigate.
2. Bill Golden reported that Mr. Voss passed away. Members were very sorry to hear the news and
expressed their concern for Helen Voss and her family. Bill Byers went to Main Street BBQ to pick
up some food for the Voss's one evening and the owners offered to donate the food free of charge.
Mr. Byers would like to acknowledge and thank Main Street BBQ for their kindness.
3. Jeff Miller asked the committee for information about racial integration in Euless in the 1950's for
his research about the integration of sports in Texas. Weldon Cannon will talk with Mr. Miller.
4. Andy Weinzapfel owns a high tech, top of the art metal detector he would like to use on various
historical locations in Euless. Members indicated the property on the southwest corner of Hwy. 10
and Cullum Drive and the property at the airport as possible locations to investigate. Bill Golden and
Bill Byers also have metal detectors and will work together with Mr. Weinzapfel. Everything found
as a result of this endeavor will be donated to the Historical Preservation Committee.
ADJOURNMENT
Don Martin made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Faye Stinneford seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:25 a.m.
