Minutes
March 9, 2013
CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Bill Golden, called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. The meeting was held at Euless City Hall,
201 North Ector Drive, Euless, TX.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Leah Bennett, Perry Brockmeyer, Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Barbara
Collier, Iris Elliott, Betty Fuller, Bill Golden, Norma Lively, Don Martin, David Massey, Shirley Mercer,
Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Faye Stinneford and Mavy Wright.
RECOGNITION OF VISITORS
Council Member Leon Hogg and Andy Weinzapfel.
STAFF PRESENT
Suzanne Hendrickson, Recreation Manager
Ofa "Mary" Faiva-Siale, Projects Coordinator
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Veva Lou Massey attended the February meeting. Under Chairman's report, item#2, Mavy Wright did not
speak with the owners of the Bird's Fort property. She spoke with people who are in charge of the land. Betty
Fuller made a motion to approve the minutes with the corrections. Michele Burger seconded the motion,
motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer, Barbara Collier, reported the beginning balance on February 11, 2013 was $11,669.18.
Expenditures totaled $396.90 and deposits totaled $96. The balance as of March 11, 2013 was
$11,368.28.
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. There were eight visitors at open house on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Members reported the following:
• Felt that more advertisement is needed about Heritage Park and open house.
• The silent alarin was set off. Barbara Collier spoke with the police officer that responded. It was
noted that the officer didn't know of Heritage Parks' existence.
• Gary Parker asked about putting brochures on every door in Euless and/or including something in
Val Pac.
2. Joe Cannon, Iris Elliott, Mavy Wright, David and Veva Lou Massey, Norma Lively, Shirley Mercer,
Helen Payton and Doris Brown volunteered to docent during open house on Saturday, April 13, 2013.
3. The following people has volunteered to serve as docents during Arbor Daze—Barbara Collier, Mavy
Wright, Iris Elliott, Nolnia Lively, Shirley Mercer, Leah Bennett, Doris Brown, Betty Fuller, Helen
Payton, Faye Stinneford and Joe Cannon. A few more volunteers may be needed.

STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Acquisition Sub-committee-
• Staff dropped off a post drill that was donated by Peter Hansl of Euless.
2. Museum Set-up Committee—Barbara Collier reported the following:
• Inventory of Heritage Park is ongoing. The Fuller House and Museum artifacts already in the
database have been tagged.
• Has a laptop and inventory forms at the Museum to aide in the inventory process.
• Still need to inventory the Library, McCormick Barn and the Himes Log House. Mrs. Fuller
volunteered to help with the Library inventory.
• Asked for a small desk for the office at the Museum.
• All new donations received during the inventory process are to be placed in the southwest office.
• Bill Golden indicated the possibility of changing the Sub-committee's name.
• The mural project is still being worked on.
• History Wall—Betty Fuller noted that a new artist is now working on the tile project. Completed
tiles are displayed inside the display cases at the Library.
3. Publicity Sub-Committee—Barbara Collier reported the following:
• Asked if the members can be provided with Heritage Park flyers to post at various businesses
around the area. Staff will provide the flyers.
• Veva Lou Massey asked if open house yard signs could be provided for the members to post in
their yards on the week leading up to open house. Staff will provide the signs.
• Discussed having brochures to display at other historical locations. Staff is currently reviewing
various brochure possibilities.
• Michele Burger asked that a year be added to the bookmark that was provided by staff
4. Plaque Sub-committee—Faye Stinneford indicated the following:
• Still needs to add Barbara Collier to the Chairman/Vice-chairman plaque.
• More cash was donated for memorials and she will add those to the plaque.
• Still had an envelope for memorials for Johnny Voss.
5. Scrapbook Sub-Committee—Betty Fuller asked if anyone would like to volunteer to help her with the
project.
6. Euless Marker Program—Weldon Cannon discussed the following:
• Will review setting the Cannon House marker with Gary Parker.
• Is ready to order the Fuller House and Himes House markers. Some discussion was held regarding
the kinds of posts needed for the markers. Norma Lively made a motion to purchase the poles for
the Fuller House and the Log House from Southwell with the option to experiment with other
poles for future posts. Weldon Cannon seconded the motion. All were in favor, motion approved.
• Will work on the Barn and Museum markers once the Fuller House and Himes House markers are
done.
7. Tarrant Country Historical Commission—Betty Fuller indicated that members of the commission
were happy to hear about the McCormick Barn display and the mention of Camp Bowie. Much of
what remained of Camp Bowie is pretty much gone.

8. Library Photo Display—Michele Burger reported that the current photo being displayed at the Library
is one of the first post office with Robert Nail and another gentleman in front of the key boxes.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. The members will tour Bird's Fort after the April meeting. Staff will arrange a bus to drive the
members. The walk from the parking lot to the marker may be about a 100 yards or so.
2. Peggy Vandiver is at the Reliance Rehab Center.
3. Will be meeting with the members who regularly serve as docents to discuss the elementary school
tours.
STAFF REPORTS
1. Parking passes will be provided to those who are volunteering at Arbor Daze.
2. Reported that members of the Himes family were hoping to take photographs at the Log House.
3. Currently hiring a lot of people for summer jobs.
OTHER REPORTS
1. Congratulations were offered to Helen and the late Johnny Voss for being the Lifetime Achievements
award recipients. Members also congratulated Bill Golden who received the Volunteer of the Year
award on behalf of the Museum Set Up committee.
2. Weldon Cannon suggested having a rotating exhibit for the Museum including one on Camp Bowie.
3. David Massey reported that a couple of well dressed individuals approached their friends' home
identifying themselves as being with Reliant Energy. A question came up regarding their social
security numbers, police was contacted and it turned out to be a scam. The two were arrested.
ADJOURNMENT
Perry Brockmeyer made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Betty Fuller seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
