Minutes
April 8, 2013
CALL TO ORDER
Vice-chairman, Barbara Collier, called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. The meeting was held at Euless
City Hall, 201 North Ector Drive, Euless, TX.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Bill Byers, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Barbara Collier, Iris Elliott,
Norma Keplinger, Norma Lively, Don Martin, David Massey, Shirley Mercer, Gary Parker, Helen
Payton, Peggy Vandiver and Mavy Wright.
RECOGNITION OF VISITORS
Council Member Leon Hogg, Art Sahlstein and Andy Weinzapfel.
STAFF PRESENT
Suzanne Hendrickson, Recreation Manager
Ofa "Mary" Faiva-Siale, Projects Coordinator
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Don Martin made a motion to approve the minutes. Doris Brown seconded the motion, motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer, Barbara Collier, reported the beginning balance on March 11, 2013 was $11,368.28.
Expenditures totaled $178.61 and deposits totaled $46.15. The balance as of April 8, 2013 was
$11,235.82
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. Joe Cannon, Iris Elliott, Mavy Wright, David Massey, Norma Lively, Shirley Mercer, Helen Payton,
Peggy Vandiver, Barbara Collier and Doris Brown volunteered to docent during open house on
Saturday, April 13, 2013.
2. Iris Elliott,Norma Keplinger, Joe Cannon, David Massey, Helen Payton, Norma Lively and Mavy
Wright volunteered to serve as docents on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Peggy Vandiver may also docent
if she's able.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Arbor Daze Set Up:
• Gary Parker and Bill Byers will build a few displays. Approval has been acquired to purchase a
few items. A few artifacts and photos will be displayed as well as a slideshow.
• The following people volunteered to work the historical displays: Iris Elliott, Betty Fuller, Barbara
Collier, Doris Brown, Norma Lively, Shirley Mercer, Leah Bennett, Joe Cannon, Mavy Wright,
Bill Byers, Don Martin, Gary Parker, Andy Weinzapfel, Michele and Dan Burger, Bill Golden,
Helen Payton, Faye Stinneford and Peggy Vandiver. Gary Parker and Barbara Collier will be on
site on and off throughout the day.

2. Acquisition Sub-committee—Bill Byers:
• Staff will meet Mr. Byers at Heritage Park to help unload farm implements for Heritage Park.
• Peggy Vandiver may have a desk to donate. Barbara Collier would like the dimensions of the desk
prior to accepting the donation as it may not fit in the office.
3. Museum Set-up Committee—Barbara Collier reported the following:
• Inventory of Heritage Park is ongoing.
4. Publicity Sub-Committee—Barbara Collier reported the following:
• Provided open house flyers for members to post at local businesses. New ones will be provided to
the members for each open house.
• Michele Burger takes brochures to display at Grapevine. She asked for release dates of the
Mayor's newsletter.
5. Euless Marker Program—The following was discussed:
• Staff ordered the Fuller House and Himes Log House markers. The deposit has been paid.
• Weldon Cannon is currently working on the marker application for the McCormick Barn.
• Mr. Cannon will work on the Museum marker after the McCormick Barn.
CO-CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Barbara Collier reported the following:
• The following people couldn't attend today's meeting: Bill Golden, Faye Stinneford and Jan
Bellamy.
• Asked for suggestions on things to display in the flip chart at the Museum.
• A thank you card was received from Glen Gleghorn for the Committee's donation to Crest Haven
in honor of Helen Gleghorn.
• The Committee received a birthday invitation to Peggy Vandiver's birthday celebration on April
21, 2013.
STAFF REPORTS
1. Staff reported the following:
• Ongoing work is being done on entering and updating the files for the inventory.
• Bill Marquis will be re-chinking the Himes Log House.
• Encouraged members to keep an eye out for vandals who may be after the copper from the AC
unit.
OTHER REPORTS
1. Art Sahlstein gave a brief history about Bird's Fort and the surrounding lands. He will be the tour
guide on the Bird's Fort tour after today's meeting.
2. Gary Parker found about twenty-four articles from around the time the Indians signed the treaty down
near Bird's Fort if anyone would like to read about it. He also indicated that a copy of the treaty can
also be found on line.
3. Peggy Vandiver thanked the members for all the flowers and cards she received while she was out
after surgery.

4. Norma Keplinger reported that DiAnn Golden is feeling more comfortable and asked for the
members' continued prayers.
ADJOURNMENT
David Massey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Norma Keplinger seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:03a.m.
