Smoke Alarm Basics
Smoke alarms are one of the most important fire
safety devices you can install to protect you and
your family from a fire. However, one smoke alarm
doesn't provide enough protection. The National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA) recommends installing
a smoke alarm inside every sleeping room, outside
every sleeping area and on every level of the home.
And, it's best if you install alarms that interconnect to
each other, so when one sounds they all sound.
Different types of smoke alarms:
• Ionization smoke alarms are generally more
responsive to flaming fires.
• Photoelectric smoke alarms are generally more
responsive to fires that begin with a long period
of smoldering.
• Dual -Sensor smoke alarms combine ionization and
photoelectric technology to detect both flaming and
smoldering fires, offering you the best protection
and saving you the trouble of installing two
separate smoke detectors.
Daylight Savings Time begins March 14. Traditionally,
switching to and from Daylight Savings is a good
reminder to test the smoke detectors in your home
and replace the batteries. That way, you know the
batteries are fresh. For more information on installing,
maintaining and testing smoke detectors, visit NFPA.
org.
Testing smoke alarms:
• Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the
test button. • Make sure everyone in the home
understands the sound of the smoke alarm and knows
how to respond.
• Follow manufacturer's instructions for cleaning to
keep smoke alarms working well.
• Smoke alarms with non -replaceable 10-year
batteries are designed to remain effective for up to
10 years. If the alarm chirps, warning that the
battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm
right away.
• Smoke alarms with any other type of battery need
a new battery at least once a year. If that alarm
chirps, warning the battery is low, replace the
battery right away.
• When replacing a battery, follow manufacturer's list
of batteries on the back of the alarm or
manufacturer's instructions. Manufacturer's
instructions are specific to the batteries
(brand and model) that must be used. The smoke
alarm may not work properly if a different kind of
battery is used.
If you cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms or alarm
batteries for your home, the Euless Fire Department
may be able to install them for you free of charge.
Please call 817-685-1600 or visit
https:Hfonns.eulesstx.gov/fonns/smoke
for more information regarding free smoke detectors
or to request a fire department representative to visit
your home and evaluate your smoke alarms.
Annual Roadway Project Update
The Euless City Council is committed to the upkeep of the City's infrastructure and uses long-range planning in order to
guide the maintenance and replacement of the City's infrastructure. The Capital Improvements Program is a comprehensive
document detailing all drainage, street, water, wastewater, and other projects. The Capital Improvements Program is
reviewed and updated annually to aid the City Council in allocating resources and determining priorities.
All roadways in Euless are evaluated every four years to determine pavement condition and structural integrity. At the
conclusion of this evaluation, each section of roadway is assigned a numerical score. This helps to determine what types
of preventative maintenance or rehabilitation activities should be performed, or identifies if a roadway needs to be fully
reconstructed. The evaluation is also used to prioritize the order in which work is addressed. Each year, the City Council
appropriates approximately $1,000,000 towards street maintenance. Major street reconstruction projects are identified and
separately funded.
FY 2019 STREET RECONSTRUCTION
Within the next few weeks, the City will begin a major street
reconstruction project that was approved as part of the Capital
Improvements Program.
The project includes the complete reconstruction of the
following streets:
• Harwood Road, from just west of North Main Street to
S.H. 157/Industrial Blvd.
• South Pipeline Road, from Royal Parkway to Highland Drive.
• Highland Drive
• West Pipeline Road, from Raider Drive to Arwine Court
In addition, a new extension of Mills Drive will also be
constructed from S.H. 10 to provide additional access to Carr
Park. Construction work will be performed in two phases.
Construction on the first phase, which includes Harwood
Road, South Pipeline Road, and Highland Dr. will begin in the
next few weeks with final completion anticipated in November
2022. The second phase, which includes West Pipeline Road
and Mills Dr. is scheduled to be bid in the summer of 2021.
You can follow the progress and

construction projects online at
