HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-01-07TEEN COURT ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES MEETING OF JANUARY 7, 2021 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00 p.m. by video conference on the 7th day of January, 2021 with the following members present: HURST: EULESS: Robin Edwards, David Lawwill, Joe Robinson BEDFORD: Chris Morrison, Sara Steves, Kathleen Toms TEEN REPRESENTATIVES: Hurst Council Liaison — Bedford Council Liaison — Euless Council Liaison — Eddie Price HEB Teen Court Coordinator — Mindy Eichorst HEB Senior Teen Court Clerk — Also present: Hurst City Secretary — Euless Court Manager — Claudia Quintero Bedford Court Manager — Doug Campbell Hurst Court Manager — Lisa Howard HEB Teen Court Teen Liaison. Bedford Administrative Services Director - MEMBERS NOT PRESENT: Bien Camungol, Lorrie Dickerson, Renu Sloan CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kathleen Toms'called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. with a quorum of six Board Members present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) November 5, 2020 Regular Meeting Robin Edwards made a motion to approve the November 5, 2020 regular meeting minutes and Joe Robinson seconded the motion and all were in favor. 2. Introductions Introductions were done. There was one new Advisory Board Member present, Joe Robinson, representing the City of Euless. OLD BUSINESS 3. Discuss Fundraising Options. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst mentioned that there are several social media sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, Instagram) that each of the cities have that several people and businesses follow. A request for donations and sponsorship could be done on one of the pages. Each A the cities have a website that includes a page about HEB Teen Court and a link could be added to accept donations. Ms. Eichorst also brought up an idea of interviewing and videotaping past HEB Teen Court Scholarship recipients and adding the videos to the social media outlets. One video could also be about the Teen Court process from when a teen receives a citation from one of the cities to asking for Teen Court to take care of the citation. David Lawwill will research different fundraising websites that could be linked to the verbiage and videos that will placed on the social media sites and websites. OFFICER ELECTIONS 4. Hold election and vote for officer positions of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary. Kathleen Toms nominated David Lawwill for the Chairperson position and Mr. Lawwill accepted. Since there was only one nomination, there was a voice vote with all ayes. David Lawwill nominated Robin Edwards for the Vice -Chairperson position, but Mr. Edwards declined. Kathleen Toms nominated Sara Steves for the Vice -Chairperson position and Ms. Steves accepted. Since there was only one nomination, there was a voice vote with all ayes. There were no nominations for the Secretary position. All Board Members voted with all ayes to continue with Lorrie Dickerson as secretary. NEW BUSINESS 5. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the next Teen Court Scholarship Meeting. Kathleen Toms made a motion to have the Teen Court Scholarship Meeting on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Bedford City Hall, Large Conference Room, Building C, located at 1805 L. Don Dodson Drive. If that date is not available, the second option would be Thursday, February 11, 2021. The following Advisory Members mentioned they would be on this committee: Kathleen Toms, Sara Steves, Robin Edwards, Chris Morrison, and David Lawwill. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board Meeting. The next Teen Court Advisory Board Meeting will be on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. via videoconference (Zoom). REPORTS S. Eichorst presented the Coordinator's Report from November and December 2020. S. Eichorst presented the Teen Court Scholarship Fund Report.
