HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-03-04 EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD THURSDAY, MARCH 4, 2021 ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order by Chairperson Snitz at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday,March 4,2021, in the Meeting Room of the Library,201 N Ector Drive. Those present included Chairperson Barney Snitz,Vice Chairperson Allan Gibbs, Board Members Mike McGehee, Jim Hamilton, Rochelle Ragas, and Jorge Chac. Board Members Chris McAllister and Mavy Wright were not present. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Sherry Knight, Library Director Mollie Myers,Administrative Secretary VISITORS Mayor Pro Tem Salmon Bhojani ITEM NO. 2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Chairperson Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes with corrections of the regular meeting held February 4,2021. The motion was made by Vice Chairperson Gibbs and seconded by Board Member McGehee. All were in favor and the motion carried. ITEM NO. 3 WELCOMED VISITORS Chairperson Snitz welcomed all that were present. ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT Emergency Response Update Ms.Knight gave an update on the library during the winter storm informing the board that no harm was done to the library building and that a couple of the library staff volunteered their time to help out at the warming center. Board Member Hamilton inquired about the number of citizens that used the center and Ms.Knight stated that about 115 utilized the warming center while the power was out and that it then transitioned into a comfort and water filling station during the boil water advisory. ❖ Library Update Ms. Knight gave an overview of the latest statistical reports. Library Board Minutes,March 4,2021,Page 1 of 3 r Library Board Minutes,March 4,2021,Page 2 of 3 Vice Chairperson Gibbs asked for clarification on the audio and e-book statistics and Ms. Knight stated that e-books and e-audiobooks are increasingly becoming more popular while books on cd are on the decline as they age out of cars that are no longer equipped with a CD player. Vice Chairperson Gibbs asked for a comparison between physical and digital items and Ms.Knight informed him that books and other physical items remain a higher percentage of circulation than digital formats. ❖ Classes &Events Update Ms. Knight gave an overview of the COVID-19 vaccine registration event the library planned to help citizens register online. She also mentioned that staff is available to aid citizens in applying for FEMA assistance for the winter storm damage. Ms. Knight mentioned the new coffee service in the public lounge, the Teen Grab and Go bags in the Teen Room and gave an overview of the Teen Advisory Group's first meeting and goals for these teen volunteers. Board Member Chac stated how the library aided him while he was in school and how it can help students prepare for the SATs, as well as many other resources for teen needs. ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS Library Board Chairperson Chairperson Snitz spoke of the Town Hall Meeting video and it was played for the Board to see. Chairperson Snitz commented on the location of the "It Was Just Yesterday..." statue at the entrance and inquired about the Euless Library Foundation's Membership Director's health, and spoke briefly of the COVID vaccine. Library Board Vice-Chairperson Vice Chairperson Gibbs asked to be reminded of who was elected for Liaison to the Euless Library Foundation and Ms. Knight stated that the new liaison was Board Member Ragas. Vice Chairperson Gibbs gave Board Member Ragas the date of the next ELF board meeting. Vice Chairperson Gibbs stated that a reception for the Bubble Wall donors would take place as soon as possible. Library Board Members Board Member Hamilton informed Ms.Knight of corrections needed regarding the location of the board meeting on the city's website and Ms. Knight took note. Board Member Chac inquired about the library's focus on outreach and Ms. Knight stated that the library was very open to going somewhere to discuss library resources or having groups come to us. Vice Chairperson Gibbs stated that board members would be happy to go speak on behalf of the library. Library Board Minutes,March 4,2021,Page 3 of 3 ITEM NO. 7 PUBLIC COMMENTS Mr. Bhojani complimented the board's and library staffs work with our variety of communities in Euless. ITEM NO. 8 ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Vice Chairperson Gibbs and seconded by Board Member Chac.
