APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) April 4, 2013 regular meeting. Minutes of the April 4, 2013 Regular Board Meeting were reviewed. Phoebe Soward made a motion to accept the minutes and Janet Key seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. OLD BUSINESS 2. Discuss items as they relate to the annual Teen Court Scholarship Banquet. Chairperson Renu Sloan would like to thank everyone for the banquet. The silent auction was a success and had many wonderful items. Coordinator Mindy Eichorst advised there were a few logistical items that need to be discussed in the future in reference to the silent auction as a whole. Vice Chairperson Priscilla Cauley mentioned that a lot more attention needs to be on the teens and highlighting the teens and the recipients. She mentioned she would like to see more teens at the banquet and would like to somehow have the teens not pay for attending. Chairperson Sloan mentioned she would like to see if some corporate sponsor could promote it and underwrite the banquet. Board Member Kathleen Toms mentioned that business is down due to the construction in the area. 3. Discuss ideas for fundraisers. The fundraiser with Papa John's Pizza located in Bedford has had a few issues. The agreement between Papa John's Pizza and the Texas Rangers Baseball is if they score a certain amount of runs in one game, pizza the next day will be half off. This deal trumps the "Teen Court Special" if it falls on a Thursday. There were some issues with some trying to order pizza from the Hurst Papa John's Pizza Store, who did not know anything about the Teen Court Special. Chairperson Renu Sloan mentioned that other fundraisers need to be thought about and considered throughout the year. NEW BUSINESS 4. Discuss the overview of The HEB Teen Court Program process. (Tabled from April 4, 2013 meeting) Coordinator Mindy Eichorst handed out and discussed the whole Teen Court Process to the advisory board members. She explained the process from the time the teens get citations until they finish their requirements for the program. She explained that for the advisory board members to get an understanding of the process they should be required to attend both a trial and a master jury trial to see the process in person. She explained that a lot is going on at once but everything gets done in an orderly manner. 5. Discuss and possibly take action on a new advisory board member packet. (Tabled from April 4, 2013 meeting) Coordinator Mindy Eichorst had a sample packet with information that can be handed out to the new advisory board members once they are appointed to the Teen Court Advisory Board by their respective city council. Any board member that does not have one can receive one in the near future. Some of the information to be included will be the future teen court dates and times the board members would be able to choose to attend. Kathleen Toms motioned to start the new packets immediately and Phoebe Soward seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 6. Set a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board Meeting. The next HEB Teen Court meeting will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bedford City Hall upstairs conference room, 2000 Forest Ridge Drive.
