HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-03-08Regular Meeting Euless City Council March 8, 1977 CALL TO ORDER N° 137 The regular meeting of the Euless City Council was called to order at 8 :00 p. m. in the Council Chambers of Euless City Hall by Mayor Harold Samuels. Other members present were Mrs. Willie Mae McCormick, Messrs. Charles Hunt, Raymond Ozebek, Glenn Walker, and Robert Pippin. Al so present were City Manager W. M. Sustaire, City Secretary Della Houy, City Attorney James Cribbs, City Engineer B i l l Flowers, and Assistant City Manager John Lynch, IV. V ISITOB.S. Visitors in attendance are as follows: Messrs. Roger Waite, Harold Smith and Don Calhoun; Mesdms. Mary England and Myrtle Hall. INVOCATION The invocation was given by Mayor Harold Samuels. APPRfVA1 nF M I N I I T E S The minutes of the regular meeting dated February 22, 1977, were approved as written. CONSIDER BIDS ON PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING Mayor Samuels recognized Mr. Charles Hawkins, representative of D.S.A., Inc. Mr. Hunt moved to accept the bids, on the construction of the Public Safety Building, as presented by D.S.A., Inc. Mr. Walker seconded the motion and the vote is as follows: Ayes: Messrs. Hunt, Walker, Pippin, Ozebek, and Mrs. McCormick Nays: None Mayor Samuels declared the motion carried. N° 138 (Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless City Council, March 8, 1977) CONSIDER REQUEST OF MR. HUGH WAITE FOR TRANSFER OF FRANCHISE OF METROPLEX CAB COMPANY Mayor Samuels recognized Mr. Roger \Mite, who stated he is appearing on behalf of his father, Mr. Hugh Waite, new owner of Metroplex Cab Company. Mr. Waite stated that his father purchased the company from Mr. Forrest Hammond. He further stated he is appearing be- fore the Council to request the transfer of the franchise of Metroplex Cab Company to Mr. Hugh Waite, in accordance with Ordinance No. 41. Mr. Waite stated the information required under the ordinance has been furnished the Counci 1. (Copy of letter of information on file in Council Exhibits in Office of the City Secretary.) Mayor Samuels inquired if the insurance is as required by the City Council. City Manager Sustaire stated that he received a letter from Mr. Bobby Fuller, of Fuller & Payton Insurance Agency, advising that Mr. Waite did have the coverage and the insurance was in effect, and is issued per requirements of the City Council. Mrs. McCormick moved to approve the transfer of the franchise of the Metroplex Cab Company from Mr. Forrest Hammond to Mr. Hugh Waite. Mr. Pippin seconded the motion and the vote i s as follows: Ayes: Mrs. McCormick, Messrs. Pippin, Walker, Hunt, and Ozebek Nays: None Mayor Samuels declared the motion carried. CONSIDER JOINING THE FORT WORTH MANPOWER CONSORTIUM Mr. Ozebek moved that the City of Euless join the Fort Worth Manpower Consortium, effective their next entitlement period. vote is as follows: Mr. Pippin seconded the motion and the II°` 139 (Page Threes Regular Meeting, Euless City Council, March 8 1977) Ayes: Messrs. Ozebek, Pippin, Walker, Hunt, and Mrs. McCormick Nays: None Mayor Samuels declared the motion carried. IV CONSIDER FIRE FIGHTING CONTRACT AGREEMENT BEM"EEN CITY OF EULESS AND TARRANT COUNTY Mr. Pippin moved to approve the contract agreement between t h e C i t y of Euless and Tarrant County for f i r e f i g h t i n g assistance outside the Euless City limits. Mr. Walker seconded the motion and the vote is as follows: Ayes: Messrs. Pippin, Walker, Hunt, Ozebek, and Mrs. McCormick Nays: None Mayor Samuels declared the motion carried. V CITY ATTORNEYS REPORT Mr. Cribbs stated that the condemnation case has been settled, the property owner has agreed to accept the City's funds and they are in the process of finalizing it and the property owner should have those funds this week. Mr. Cribbs further stated that he has a meeting with another property owner, on North Main Street, Thursday afternoon to discuss possible acquisition of his right -of -way, and he wi I I have a report at the next Council meeting. VI SIGNS IN EULESS Mrs. McCormick inquired when the Euless C i t y l i m i t signs would be erected on Airport Freeway, that she was advised by Senator Meier that they were to be erected. Mr. Sustaire stated that the Texas Highway Department has erected these signs, as he noticed one just west of the bridge over FM157 that says "You're leaving Bedford and now entering Euless ". Mrs. McCormick stated that the City also needs a sign on Little Bear Creek. N° 140 (Page Four, Regular Meeting, Euless City Council, March 8, 1977) VII AD ENT The meeting adjourned at 8:15 P. M.
