OLD BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing - Zoning Case #143 -.M. L. Anders -, request for change
of zoning on the West t of Tract 25, Alexander-Cullum subdivision,
from "A" Residential to "C" Commercial.
Mr. M. L. Anders, petitioner, explained to the Commission that the
property in question had been his home, but that he now lived in
another part of town and was renting the small house on the property.
He further stated he would like to open a beauty shop in the small
house at the present time, if the zoning is approved. He noted that
the adjoining property is zoned Commercial.
Mr, Earl R. Pruitt, a property owner within 200 feet, appeared as a
proponent of the request.
The chairman introduced four letters from property owners within
200 feet, expressing opposition to the zoning request. (Letters
hereby made a part of the minutes.)
Mr. Greensmith, appeared as an opponent of the request, stating
he was not trying to cast doubt on Mr, Ander's integrity, but he
felt that there might be an ulterior motive in asking for commer-
cial zoning. He stated that there is a vacant lot between him
and the Ander's property and it seemed to him, if the present
zoning were allowed, the lot next to it would be likely to go
Commercial also, which he would object to. tor. Greensmith asked
if Mr, Anders had considered an appeal to the Board of Adjustment
for non-conforming use of the land, to enable him to have a beauty
shop on the property. Mr. Anders stated he had not. Mr. Green-
Smith indicated he had no objection to the beauty shop, but that
in future years, the property would be desiriblo for other uses.
