OF THE
ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD
APRIL 18, 2013
ITEM 1 — CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by Chairman Dr.
Gayla Maas at 11:05 A.M. at the City of Euless Animal Shelter, 1517 Westpark Way,
Euless, Texas 76040.
The following members were in attendance:

Leon Hogg

JT Ackerman
Staff Support: Larry James, & Cynthia Daniel (late)

ITEM 2 — REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES FROM MEETING OF JANUARY 17,
2013
Chairman Maas asked if there were any questions regarding the minutes of January 17,
2013. Chairman Maas entertained motion to accept with one typo correction on Page 2,
Item 7 line one - change the word seconded to second. Leon Hogg made a motion to
approve the Minutes of January 17, 2013. JT Ackerman seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
ITEM 3 — STAFF REPORT— SHELTER OPERATIONS
Another Public Works employee may become an Animal Control Officer.
Hours of operation have changed for the shelter. The new hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00
pm, Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The Trinity High
School GAP Club girls come on Wednesdays. One Officer comes in at 9:00 a.m. and
stays until the GAP girls are done. These changes have reduced the amount of
overtime required by Officers.

ITEM 4— SHELTER STATISTIC REPORT
Chairman Maas commented that there were fewer animals adopted, euthanasias were
up, but appears to be more wildlife and feral cats. JT commented that wildlife includes
feral cats whereas before they were separated out. There were fewer animal bites,
calls for service about the same and animals in the shelter were almost the same.
ITEM 5 — DOG DAZE EVENT UPDATE AND MICROCHIP CLINIC
The event is scheduled for May 11th and will include a microchip clinic sponsored
through the American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery. They prepared a
press release for the clinic. It is a lifetime registration of the microchip. The cost for the
chip will be $25. The dog owners will fill out the paperwork and Dr. Maas will send the
registration papers to the AKC. Dr. Maas has sent out reminders in the mail. The
Shelter's microchip scanners will work with the microchips being used at the event.
Staff will check dogs for existing chip implants before inserting new one and will also
check new chips to make sure they work.
AKC representative told Dr. Maas that the Euless shelter was the easiest one she has
ever worked with on something like this.
Larry has a copy of the vaccination prices to post at the shelter.
Event will be held under pavilion at Public Works Facility. Larry to coordinate with Parks
Dept. to provide bleachers or some type of seating for citizens and will make sure water
bowls, buckets and pooper scoopers are available.
ITEM 6 — SHELTER FACILITY REPORT
Shelter passed the State Health Inspection for this year. Shelter has had two
inspections since last meeting. Both inspections passed with everything fully
acceptable.
Discussed the purchase of a large plastic tub to bathe dogs in. The tub will be movable.
The cost would be approximately $200-$225 for the tub and steps. Leon will make a
request for funds to purchase it. Tub will make it easier for the GAP Girls to bathe the
large dogs.
JT reported that Facility Maintenance repaired the items that needed repaired from the
list made at the last Board meeting except for the sagging ceiling tiles. The humidity in
building would cause new tiles to sag also. Facility Maintenance is including epoxy and
painting and other items in next year's budget. The cost is about $7,000.

ADDRESSED BY STAFF AND/OR PLACED ON FUTURE AGENDAS
Chairman Maas asked if there were any other items to be addressed at next meeting.
Leon asked if a sign could be put up at Dog Daze Event reminding citizens it is Election
Day.
