APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes:
a) June 6, 2013 regular meeting.
Minutes of the June 6, 2013 Regular Board Meeting were reviewed. Jeanne Owers made a
motion to accept the minutes and Kathleen Toms seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
2. Discuss ideas for fundraisers.
Jason Bess asked what the status was on speaking at one of the Chamber of Commerce meetings
about the HEB Teen Court Program. Phoebe Soward mentioned that when she had spoken to a
representative of the Chamber, she was advised that an organization cannot go and give a speech.
Kathleen Toms mentioned that due to the economy and the construction, alot of the businesses in the
area have been affected. She did mention that Marco's Pizza in Bedford said they would sponsor the
organization for a night. It was also mentioned that Manager Ernie Flores with the Euless Chik-Fil-A is
always interested in assisting with organizations. Jeanne' Owers asked if there was a list of all of the
attorneys and law firms in the HEB area. She mentioned there are several offices located on Harwood
Road and wanted to know if anyone has spoken with them. Coordinator Mindy Eichorst mentioned
there was not just one list for attorneys and law firms in the HEB area. Jeanne Owers then wanted to
know about the law firms sponsoring specific teens and have it more of an outreach. Vice-Chairperson
Priscilla Cauley brought up an idea to have all of the Advisory Board members make contact with two
or three businesses before the next meeting. Jason Bess, who works at a Ft. Worth Law Firm,
mentioned that name recognition and their logo in a city magazine, on a shirt, and on the website would
be incentives for the businesses. One other option would be to have dedicated tables at the banquet
for certain levels of sponsorship. Jason Bess mentioned he would make a sample flier for the Advisory
Board members to look over at the next meeting and then take it to the different businesses so they
have information about HEB Teen Court and the Scholarship Banquet and sponsorship possibilities.
NEW BUSINESS
3. Discuss the Papa John's Pizza fundraising partnership.
Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst explained that in June she went to drop off the fliers to Papa
John's Pizza in Bedford and a new manager was present. She explained what the fliers were for and
asked that they get passed along to Michelle, one of the other managers at that location and he
explained she no longer worked there. Mindy explained to the new manager that the fliers were taped
to the top of pizza boxes and the "special" for HEB Teen Court was good on the first and third
Thursdays. This new manager showed no interest in the fliers or the program. The partnership
between HEB Teen Court and Papa John's Pizza in Bedford has been terminated.
4. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2014 annual Teen
Court Banquet.
Chairperson Renu Sloan asked the Advisory Board Members if they want to have a banquet in
the spring. Secretary Phoebe Soward mentioned the banquet needs to give a little more
recognition to the teens. Vice-Chairperson Priscilla Cauley mentioned the banquet is for the
teens first and the Board needs to focus on them. Kathleen Toms mentioned speakers and
possibly having a younger speaker, maybe one that can relate to the teens. She also
mentioned about making the event a little less formal, possibly a pizza party. It was discussed
about having the banquet at Texas Star, Hurst Conference Center, or possibly at the Bedford
Library This item was tabled until the next Advisory Board meeting.
6. Set a date for the next Teen Court Advisory.Board Meeting.
The next HEB Teen Court meeting will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the
