Parks and Leisure Services Board
October 7,2013
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:03 p.m. On
Monday, October 7, 2013, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones, Carroll Scott, Tiffany smith,
and alternate Steve Doty. Members absent: alternate Carl Miller
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager
Randy Smith, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, and
Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson.
Visitors present: Loretta Doty and Dr. Warren Wilson
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
September 9, 2013 regular meeting. Randy Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by John Raab. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Steve Doty—J. A. Carr Park, Kiddie Carr Park, Villages of Bear Creek Park— Reported no
items of concern.
b. Randy Jones—South Euless Park, Heritage Park, Reflection Park—Reported no items of
concern
c. John Raab—Parks at Texas Star— Reported no items of concern
d. Tiffany Smith— Bob Eden Park,Trailwood Park—Reported no items of concern
e. Carroll Scott — Preserve at McCormick Park, McCormick Park — Reported no items of
concern
f. Chairman Owens—West Park, Wilshire Park—Reported no items of concern
g. Carl Miller—Blessing Branch, Midway Park—Not in attendance

h. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events:
• Saturday, September 21-9a.m.-12 p.m.—TX Junior Anglers—300 people attended
• Saturday, October 5—Stars Over Euless—rained out
• Saturday, October 12—9a.m.-12p.m.—5k Family Fun Run at Bob Eden Park
• Thursday, October 31—5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.—Trunk or Treat at EFLC parking lot
II. Volunteer of the Month
a. Chairman Owens said the October 2013 Volunteer of the Month award goes to
Freddy's Frozen Custard. Freddy's has recently joined the volunteer team, and has
been a big help at our last few special events. They supplied free custard to everyone
at the Ice Cream Social and came to help out with the TX Junior Anglers where they
also gave free custard to volunteers and citizens.They are also going to take part in our
Trunk or Treat event this Halloween and plan to be a part of our Christmas
Celebrations. Since Freddy's was not in attendance to accept their plaque, it will be
delivered to them.
Ill. Beautification Award of the Month
a. Chairman Owens said the October 2013 Residential Beautification Award of the Month
goes to Dr. Warren Wilson at 506 Limestone Drive. It is anchored by beautiful Red Oak
along with Sage bushes,Yuccas, Lantanas and many other flowering plants. It has taken
Mr. Wilson true diligence and hard work in order to achieve this well-manicured lawn.
Dr. Wilson accepted his plaque and commented that he was very appreciative of the
award.
b. Chairman Owens said the October 2013 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification
Award of the Month goes to Suite 2801 at 2801 Brazos Boulevard. As a relatively new
business it has planted over 100 trees and shrubs around the property. Red Oaks, Live
Oaks, Cedars, Crepe Myrtles, Roses, Hibiscus, Periwinkles and many other flowers are
planted throughout the property. Suite 2801 was not present to accept their award; it
will be delivered to them.

IV. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported the following for September 2013:
a. Total man hours for September 1-September 30 —532 Total
• 148.00 Horticulture
• 198.00 Forestry
• 103.00 Greenhouse
• 51.00 Special Projects
• 23.00 Training
• No trees planted
• No tree related purchases
• Trimmed trees at J.A Carr Park
• Trimmed trees for better school bus visibility
• Trimmed trees on Westpark Way sidewalks
• Cleaned up limbs at Kiddie Carr,J.A. Carr,Trailwood and P.A.T.S.
• Removed dead Red Oak at City Hall
• Lifted trees at Preserve
V. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson
• Shared FY 2013 attendance number for Recreation:
o Recreation Center: 176,012 visits (not including classes at Rec)
o Senior Center: 33,410 visits
o Pool: 43,706 visits (in only 3 months)
• Announced Blake Clouds move to Fleet & Facility and hope to introduce our new
Recreation Specialist at the next meeting.
b. Parks Report—Randy Smith
• Parks will begin the fall color change with approx. 1,200 new plants sometime this
week.
• Discussed Oncor's online reporting system for broken/burned out street lights.
• Reported the dog park to be closed until October 18th for new ryegrass.
c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald
• Discussed the Master Plan and the Master Plan ideas.

VI. Discussion of Master Plan
Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald discussed items on the master plan.
Board members to independently prioritize each item that was identified as a need, and discuss at
next meeting.
VII. Other New Business
No new business.
VIII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
No input.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
