HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-10-03 TEEN COURT ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES MEETING OF OCTOBER 3, 2013 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall on the 3rd day of October 2013, with the following members present: HURST: Phoebe Soward, Jason Bess, EULESS: Renu Sloan, Priscilla Cauley BEDFORD: Janet Key, Kathleen Toms, TEEN REPRESENTATIVES: Hurst Council Liaison —Anna Holzer Bedford Council Liaison — Euless Council Liaison — Linda Martin HEB Teen Court Coordinator—Mindy Eichorst HEB Teen Court Assistant Coordinator— Also present: Hurst City Secretary — Rita Frick Euless Staff Liaison —Teresa Alexander Bedford Court Manager— Hurst Court Manager— HEB Teen Court Clerk- Bedford Administrative Services Director- CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Renu Sloan called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. with a quorum of six Board Members present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) September 5, 2013 regular meeting. Minutes of the September 5, 2013 Regular Board Meeting were reviewed. Janet Key made a motion to accept the minutes and Kathleen Toms seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. OLD BUSINESS 2. Discuss ideas for fundraisers. Kathleen Toms mentioned that Marco's Pizza located in Bedford is interested in doing a one day Saturday Fundraiser. She also mentioned that 20% of the proceeds would be allotted for HEB Teen Court. If the receipt. from the purchased pizza, is taken to the Family Video located next door, then they can get a free video rental. She will follow up with more information and something in writing from them. Ms. Toms then mentioned that Antonio's located in North Richland Hills has shown an interest and she will talk more to them too. 3. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2014 annual Teen Court Banquet. Chairperson Renu Sloan mentioned the venues and locations for the banquet need to be decided soon. Vice-Chairperson Priscilla Cauley mentioned she thinks the banquet should still keep the same formality but focus on the teens and maybe allow the recipients to talk. Secretary Phoebe Soward suggested the teens be first in line for the buffet line and possibly having a few more decorations or theme for the recipient table and the tables the teens will be sitting at. Renu Sloan then suggested lightening up the night with engaging the teens. Priscilla Cauley suggested having photos with the Mayors of each city. Phoebe Soward had looked into the cost of a photo booth and had a cost of$500 for three hours and the average price for one is around $650.00. NEW BUSINESS 4. Discuss upcoming speaking opportunity with the Rotary Club. Teen Court Coordinator, Mindy Eichorst, was invited to give a presentation to the Rotary Club Pacesetters on Friday at 7:00am at Texas Star in Euless. Chairperson Renu Sloan and Vice- Chairperson Priscilla Cauley will attend. Mayor Griffin, City of Bedford, mentioned he is involved with the HEB Rotary Club and wanted to know if Ms. Eichorst would like to come and give a presentation to them. Mayor Griffin mentioned they meet every Tuesday at lunch at First Baptist Church of Hurst. 5. Discuss upcoming Teen Court date to observe. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst handed out a flier of the next teen court nights through December 2013. 6. Discuss and possibly take action on a sponsorship/information flier for Advisory Board Members. A discussion about having an informational flier that Advisory Board members can take to businesses if they are talking about Teen Court or a business has expressed interest in being a sponsor. Vice-Chairperson Priscilla Cauley advised that the Board needed to present something that was professional. She also mentioned maybe reducing the size of the flier and have it on cardstock, both front and back. Chairperson Renu Sloan mentioned she would check to see who they use for her neighborhood newsletter. Ms. Sloan then proposed the following questions for the board to ask themselves: do we want to combine new/old brochures and how do we want to utilize the brochure? Advisory Board member Jason Bess mentioned he will work on the flier and if any advisory board members have any ideas to email him. 7. Set a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board Meeting. The next HEB Teen Court meeting will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bedford City Hall upstairs conference room, 2000 Forest Ridge Drive. REPORTS Mindy Eichorst presented the Coordinator's Report and Financial Report for the month of September 2013. ADJOURNMENT Priscilla Cauley entered a motion for the meeting to be adjourned.
