HomeMy WebLinkAbout00-1079 TABLEDRESOLUTION NO. 00-1079 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING OPTIONAL SALES TAX INCREASE TO FUND RAPID TRANSIT WHEREAS, Tarrant County is a leading county in the generation of new jobs and population growth, with a strong business climate and a diverse economy; and WHEREAS, a safe, reliable transportation system and clean air are essential to the continued economic growth and vitality of Tarrant County and to the quality of life for Tarrant County citizens; and WHEREAS, a successful air quality compliance and mobility strategy can be accomplished through a cooperative approach in which all regions of the state - urban, suburban, and rural - recognize their roles and stakes in the process; and WHEREAS, Rapid Transit has proved to be a viable, efficient, and environmentally sound form of transportation for other urban areas such as Dallas; and WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature has an important role to play in preserving mobility and assisting all areas of the state to attain and maintain compliance with federal air quality standards, while maintaining a strong economy; and WHEREAS, Tarrant County cities are actively seeking solutions to mobility problems and Air Quality issues; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: SECTION 1 Supports legislation giving cities the option to increase the sales tax cap by one cent to fund Rapid Transit projects. SECTION 2 That copy of this resolution be forwarded to members of the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate representing Tarrant County and that a copy of this resolution also be forwarded to the Texas Municipal League requesting its support for such position. APPROVED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 22nd day of August, 2000, by a vote of ayes, nays, and abstentions.
