HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-11-11 Historical Preservation Committee Minutes November 11, 2013 CALL TO ORDER Vice-Chairman, Barbara Collier, called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. The meeting was held at Euless City Hall, 201 North Ector Drive, Euless, TX. MEMBERS PRESENT Gary Barnhill, Perry Brockmeyer, Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Bill Byers, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Barbara Collier, Iris Elliott,Norma Lively, David Massey, Veva Lou Massey, Shirley Mercer, Gary Parker, Faye Stinneford, Peggy Vandiver, Helen Payton, Helen Voss and Mavy Wright. RECOGNITION OF VISITORS Mayor Pro Tern Leon Hogg, Marilyn Long and Richard Linnartz STAFF PRESENT Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson and Projects Coordinator Ofa"Mary" Faiva-Siale APPROVAL OF MINUTES Norma Lively made a motion to approve the minutes. Doris Brown seconded the motion, motion approved. TREASURER'S REPORT Treasurer, Barbara Collier, reported the beginning balance on October 14, 2013 was $10,544.74. There were no expenditures and $90.00 in deposits. The balance as of November 11, 2013 was $10,634.74. DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT 1. Wilshire Elementary toured on October 17, 2013. There were 120 people who toured. 2. The Tarrant County Historical Commission toured the facility on October 23, 2013. There were thirty visitors that day. 3. Emeritus Independent Living toured on October 29, 2013. There were twenty-two people that day. 4. Sixteen people visited Heritage Park during open house on November 9, 2013. 5. The following people volunteered to docent at the December open house: Bill Byers, Gary Parker, Norma Lively, Shirley Mercer, Doris Brown, Peggy Vandiver, David Massey, Veva Lou Massey, Joe Cannon, Helen Payton, Weldon Cannon, Dan Burger, Iris Elliott, Perry Brockmeyer, Michelle Burger and Mavy Wright. ---- -_.-- - ---"- -I!BMW\ HPC MTG 120913 Page 1 GUEST SPEAKER 1. Richard Linnartz,President of the Historic Chisholm and Western Trails Society, gave a very interesting presentation about the Chisholm Trail, cattle drives and the cowboys' way of life on the trail. He gave interesting historical facts about stampedes, chuck wagons and various different aspects of a typical cattle drive. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Acquisition—Bill Byers is in the process of acquiring a Marine uniform for the collection. 2. Euless Marker Program—Weldon Cannon: • Currently working on the Museum write-up. • Currently working on moving the Texas State Historical Marker on his Main Street property closer to the street. STAFF REPORTS 1. Staff reported the following: • The Barn marker has been installed. • The Log House cover has been repainted. • Included Andy Weinzapfel's presentation in the minutes as well as the committee's mission statement. • Discussed with the Committee information as well as samples of books done by Arcadia. Perhaps further details can be discussed when Bill Golden is in attendance. • Will work on the Museum write up for the website. • Will have a directional sign pointing to the front entrance of the Fuller House installed soon. • Discussed Heritage Park Christmas. The event will be on Saturday, December 14 between 1 and 5 pm. Docents will be needed for the event. A live Christmas tree will be placed inside the Log House for the Committee to decorate. • Members asked for stanchions for the Museum. Staff will order the items before Heritage Park. CHAIRMANS REPORT 1. Council previously indicted that there was a conflict of interest in Barbara Collier holding dual positions on the Committee as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer. Mrs. Collier indicated that Mavy Wright has graciously accepted the position of Treasurer. The members congratulated Mavy on her new position. OTHER REPORTS 1. Mayor Pro Tem Leon Hogg removed the blue dots used in the inventory process from his bedroom suite that he donated. Staff is currently working on the inventory so that all the dots can be removed from all artifacts at Heritage Park. 2. Staff inventoried all Historical artifacts displayed in the Library and gave the inventory to the Committee. Barbara Collier will look into the Library inventory and decide what to do with the items. 3. Marilyn Long has been approved to become a new member of the Historical Committee starting on January, 2014. She'll be working on the Scrapbook/Photo Album Sub-Committee. HPC MTG 120913 Page 2 4. Perry Brockmeyer attended the Tarrant County Historical Commission Summit. It was indicated that the speaker wasn't available to speak at the event. 5. Barbara Collier recently attended a United Daughters of the Confederacy convention. ADJOURNMENT Gary Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Helen Voss seconded the motion. Motion approved.
