Parks and Leisure Services Board
June 07, 2021
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:03 p.m. On
Monday, June, 07, 2021, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Magen Brown, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler and
Jason Reyes.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager
Daniel Dearborn, Park Superintendent Ryan Turner, Recreation Superintendent Elizabeth Johnson,
and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn.
INVOCATION
Roger Sickler gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Randy Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
May 03, 2021 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by John Raab. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Steve Doty —J.A. Carr Park & Kiddy Carr: No items to report.
b. Isha Sharma — Bob Eden & Trailwood Park: Not present.
c. John Raab — Midway Park & Blessing Branch: No items to report.
d. Magen Brown — Heritage & S. Euless: No items to report.
e. Roger Sickler- Preserve & McCormick: No items to report.
f. Jason Reyes- West Park & Wilshire: No items to report.
g. Kay Seger- Villages of Bear Creek & Reflection: Not present.
h. Chairman Jones — Parks at Texas Star: No items to report.
i. Elizabeth Johnson reported on the following Special Events:
• May 01, 2021, Coffee in the Park (J.A. Carr Park) —10 citizens present.
• May 08, 2021, Bike Nights (1900 Bear Creek Pkwy) — 9 citizens present.
• June 05, 2021, Coffee in the Park (Wilshire) — 25 Citizens present.

• June 07, 2021, Member Mondays — Grab a treat after your workout for free from
8a-10a.
III. Beautification Award of the Month
a. Chairman Jones announced the June, 2021 Residential Beautification Award of the
Month goes to Michael & Delilah Burch at 2613 Tallow Drive. This landscape is
extremely well maintained and manicured. They have many trees surrounding the
property along with shrubs and colorful flowers to add to the curb appeal. Their
landscape includes liriope along the border of the flower bed, small Japanese maple,
purple Jew, Burford holly and a nice green plush lawn.
b. Chairman Jones announced the June, 2021 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification
Award of the Month goes to Kensington Apartments at 2400 State Highway 121. This
property has many different varieties of plants throughout its landscape and stands
out from the highway. The landscape includes Knockout roses, red petunias, Blue Rug
Juniper, Nandina and feather grass, just to name a few.
IV. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for (May 2021):
a. Total man hours for May 1st— May 315Y 2021 — Total = 804
• 539 Horticulture
• 188 Forestry
• 24 Greenhouse
• 0 Special Projects
0 53 Training
➢ Trimmed trees at Heritage Park
➢ Trimmed trees at Westpark
➢ Trimmed trees at the Splash Pad and EFLAP
➢ Trimmed trees at Bob Eden Park
➢ Removed Boxelder Maple at McCormick
➢ Trimmed back Byers Lumber Yard Fig at Historical Tree Grove
➢ Derrick and Randy spoke to the students at New Beginnings Christian Academy
about plants and trees
➢ Chainsaw safety and maintenance training for entire staff

• Elizabeth Johnson introduced herself and gave an overview of her role as the
Recreation Superintendent.
• Elizabeth Johnson gave the special events report.
• Elizabeth Johnson gave an overview of the Aquatic Park opening.
• Elizabeth Johnson gave an overview of the enrollment of kids for summer camp.
• Elizabeth Johnson gave an overview of the opening on the Senior Center.
• Daniel Dearborn discussed the chainsaw training for the Parks department.
• Daniel Dearborn gave an update on the painting of the MT signs by the Boy Scouts.
• Daniel Dearborn gave an overview on updates being made around the parks in the
city.
b. Community Services Report— Ray McDonald
• Ray updated Park Board on the status of the Athletics department and the
registration numbers currently compared to 2019.
• Ray gave an overview on the changes that are proposed to be made at Wilshire.

Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports.

No visitors or City Council Members present.

Chairman Jones gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
