Parks and Leisure Services Board
March 3, 2014
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. On
Monday, March 3, 2014, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones, Tiffany Smith, alternate Steve
Doty and alternate Roger Sickler. Members absent Carroll Scott and Carl Miller.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager
Randy Smith, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, and
Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson.
Visitors present: Loretta Doty, and Mayor Pro Tern Leon Hogg
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
February 2014 regular meeting. Randy Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by Tiffany Smith. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Steve Doty—Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report.
b. Randy Jones—Bob Eden &Trailwood: No items to report.
c. John Raab—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection Park: No items to report.
d. Tiffany Smith—J.A. Carr Park& Kiddy Carr Park: No items to report.
e. Carroll Scott—Preserve & McCormick: Not present
f. Carl Miller—Heritage Park&South Euless Park: Not present
g. Roger Sickler — West Park & Wilshire: Wilshire has graffiti on playground. West Park
light at field #2 needs to be adjusted.
h. Chairman Owens—PATS: No items to report

i. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events:
• Friday, February 14 Senior Valentine's Dance—45 people attended
• Saturday, February 15 Mommy/Son Valentine's Brunch—59 people attended
• Saturday, February 15 Daddy/Daughter Valentine's Dance—79 people attended

• Monday, March 10 Hometown Food Bank: 9:00 am— 12:00 pm
• Monday, March 10 Concert in the Park—Killdares @ VOBC: 7:00 pm

II. Volunteer of the Month
a. Chairman Owens said the March 2014 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Cookies
by Design. Because of their generous donation to the daddy/daughter dance, we were
able to give away a bouquet of flowers in a raffle to a little girl. They also donated
cookies for the event, which everyone enjoyed. They were unable to attend the
meeting so their certificate will be delivered to them.
Ill. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Vice Chairman Tiffany Smith reported the following for February:
a. Total man hours for February 1- February 28 = 596
• 264.00 Horticulture
• 207.00 Forestry
• 101.00 Greenhouse
• 8.00 Special Projects
• 16.00 Training
• Planted Western Red Cedars at the Villages of Bear Creek Park, Midway Park, and
Bob Eden.
• Transplanted Crepe Myrtles on Trojan Trail.
• Planted Red Oak, Live Oak, and Bald Cypress at Midway Park.
• Planted multiple Crepe Myrtles in parking lot medians.
• Planted Red Oak, Live Oak and Bald Cypress at Blessing Branch Park.
IV. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson
• Update on EFLC and Senior Center, all fitness equipment was delivered and
installed.
• Update on aquatics, LTS (learn to swim) classes are doing very well, received good
feedback from parents.
• Tim Rolen in Aquatic Maintenance is set to retire in April.

b. Parks Report—Randy Smith
• Landscaping around new aquatic facility and EFLC is nearing completion.
• Concrete work on the amphitheater at the Villages of Bear Creek is complete.
• Reminder that the drinking fountains are still turned off.
c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald
• Discussed the director's report and the numbers reflected on the report.
• John Ledbetter, Parks Foreman is set to retire and the end of March.
• Johnnie Green, former Parks Superintendent, was inducted into the Walk of
Champions at Parks at Texas Star on Saturday, March 1.
• Encore will be removing some trees at Bob Eden due to interference in their lines.
Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports.
V. Decision on Master Plan
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections that need to be made to the
proposed Master Plan 2014. Randy Jones made the motion to accept the Master Plan and
recommend it to City Council for adoption. Motion was seconded by John Raab. The vote was
unanimous.
VI. Other New Business
No new business
VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
Mayor Pro Tern Leon Hogg announced his resignation celebration on Friday, May 2nd from 3:30—
7:00 p.m. at the Villages of Bear Creek amphitheater and pavilion.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
