I CALLED TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order by Chairperson Barney Snitz at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021, in the Meeting Room of the Library, 201 N. Ector Drive. Those present included: Chairperson Snitz, Board Members Jorge Chac, Chris McAllister, Jim Hamilton, and Mike McGehee. Board Members Mavy Wright and Rochelle Ragas were not present. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Angela Jones, Assistant Library Director Mollie Myers, Administrative Secretary Armaan Virani, Library Aide VISITORS LuAnn Portugal, Euless, Texas ITEM NO.2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Chairperson Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held August 5, 2021. The motion was made by Board Member McGehee and seconded by Board Member Chac. All were in favor and the motion carried. ITEM NO.3 WELCOMED VISITORS Chairperson Snitz welcomed all visitors. ITEM NO.4 PRESENTED LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT ❖ Staff Spotlight Ms. Jones introduced Library Aide, Armaan Virani. Mr. Virani gave a brief overview of his work experience, education background, and personal interests. Board Member Hamilton and Chac asked more detailed questions about his education. ❖ Library Update Ms. Jones gave a presentation on the library's new recognition as a sensory inclusive location and about the grant that aided them in prepping the library and staff for this recognition. Ms. Jones also described the requirements and benefits of the library's new Kulture City designation which makes it easier for families with sensory needs to find and utilize our location. Board Member McAllister also inquired about the other locations in the area with this designation. Board Member Hamilton inquired more about the staff training. Board Member Chac spoke highly of the designation and congratulated the library, as well. ❖ Classes and Events Update Ms. Jones gave an overview of recent statistical reports, classes, and events including "Books & Bites" and "Podcast Brunch Club." ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS Library Board Chairperson Chairperson Snitz inquired about the students returning to the library and their effect on the atmosphere. Ms. Jones stated that the library had adopted a positive and inclusive attitude for the returning students and set up programs and passive activities to welcome the students back. Board Member Chac mentioned his experiences with the library when he was a student and talked about the challenges that current students face and how the library can help with their social and educational needs. Ms. Jones mentioned how these relationships go hand -in -hand with our new Family Place designation. Chairperson Snitz asked if the rise in COVID cases impacted the library staff and Ms. Jones said it has not. Chairperson Snitz made a motion to nominate Jim Hamilton as Vice Chairperson. Board Member Chac seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried. Library Board Members Board Member McGehee mentioned it's amazing to see how this library has come to fruition. He noted that throughout the history of the library the changes have been amazing to witness. Board Member McGehee mentioned that the thing that has set this library apart is that over time it has really concentrated on how it could be part of the community and how the community can be a part of it. And that it also has a tremendous staff. Board Member McGehee invited the Board to the Annual Meeting and Donor Reception for the Bubble Wall on September 19.
