RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EULESS
SUPPORTING FUNDING FOR THE WIDENING OF
SH 183/121 FROM 111 820 to SH 161 IN IRVING
WHEREAS, traffic congestion has increased throughout the corridor
causing the deterioration of air quality; and
WHEREAS, this corridor serves as a regional highway with over 136,092
Tarrant County citizens driving to Dallas County every day and 46,430 Dallas
County citizens drive to Tarrant County every day; and
WHEREAS, DFW Airport drives the economy for the Dallas /Fort Worth
Metroplex and State Highway 183 is the south entrance to the airport; and
WHEREAS, the two highest traffic counts in all of Tarrant County are
along this 9.3 miles of State Highways 183 and 121; and
WHEREAS, this area represents the 4th most congested area in the
Metroplex and affects delivery of goods, flight connections, and causes the delay
of emergency vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the Air Quality of the Metroplex has not reached attainment
status and with 50% of air pollutants coming from on -road vehicles, it is
imperative this congestion be alleviated in the region.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EULESS, TEXAS:
THAT we urge the planning, funding and construction of SH 183/121 from
IH 820 to SH 161 in Irving be expedited.
ADOPTED AND PASSED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council
on the 24th day of June, 2003, by a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
