HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-04-07 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board April 7,2014 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 PM on Monday, April 7, 2014, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Owens. Other Board Members present: Randy Jones, Tiffany Smith, Steve Doty and alternate Roger Sickler. Members absent:John Raab and Carl Miller. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Mayor Pro Tem Leon Hogg, Loretta Doty INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March 3, 2014 regular meeting. Randy Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Steve Doty. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report. b. Randy Jones—Bob Eden Park&Trailwood: Hole behind backstop needs to be filled. c. John Raab—VOBC, Reflection, Preserve& McCormick: Not present d. Tiffany Smith—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr Park- No items to report. e. Roger Sickler: West Park & Wilshire- Wilshire has some ant mounds, West park ball field needs some repairs. f. Carl Miller: Heritage&S. Euless—Not present g. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events: • Hometown Food Bank—March 10—60 people • Concert in the Park(Killdares)—March 10—300 people • Trash Off—April 5—150 people • Kids Beach Club Easter Egg Hunt—April 12, Bob Eden Park 8am-12pm • Arbor Daze Festival—April 26& 27, City Hall • Leon Hogg Retirement—May 2,VOBC Amphitheatre 3:30 PM • Mayor Mary Lib Saleh Retirement—May 16, Library 3:30 PM • Moving in the Park (Finding Nemo)—May 17 8:30 PM II. Volunteer of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced that the April 2014 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Chick Fil A. They graciously donated over 600 chicken nuggets to the father daughter dance on Valentine's weekend. They also donated many bags of chips for the evening, allowing the city employees to focus on other things. Chick Fil A was unable to attend the meeting,the plaque will be delivered to their location. Ill. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Vice Chairman Tiffany Smith reported the following for March: a. Total man hours for March 1- March 21= 558 • 218.00 Horticulture • 185.00 Forestry • 103.00 Greenhouse • 0.00 Special Projects • 52.00 Training • Transplanted Live oak from City Hall to Dog Park. • Planted Red Oaks, Bur Oaks. Live Oaks at the Villages at Bear Creek Park. • Planted Vitex, Red Oaks, Chinese Pistache at Midway Park. • Trimmed Blessing Branch Park Parking lot. IV. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • Summer Camp lottery registration forms are now available and being accepted at the EFLC. • Current participation numbers suggest that we will need to offer more swim lessons this summer. • Senior Center has doubled the amount of programs as compared to last year • Arbor Daze will have additional rides and attractions as opposed to last year. Parks/Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • Randy Smith resigned as Parks Manager. • Parks and Community Service Master Plan will be presented at the April 22 Council meeting. • WeatherBug stations have been installed at the Aquatic Center and at Parks at Texas Star to monitor weather conditions. • Saturday, May 31 the finance building will be dedicated to former Mayor, Harold Samuels. • Glade Park Trail Grant update. Chairman Owens thanked the staff for their reports. VI. Other New Business No new business. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input from City Council or visitors. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Owens gave the benediction.
