HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-06-16FINAL MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE EULESS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD June 16, 2021 ITEM 1 — CALL TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Euless Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by Director of Public Works and Engineering Hal Cranor at 11:32 A.M. via Zoom video conference call. The following members were in attendance: Director of Public Works and Engineering Hal Cranor Dr. Susan Read City Council Member Eddie Price Staff Members Present: Deputy City Manager Chris Barker Asst. Director of Public Works Major Jones Facilities Foreman Kenny Spargur Animal Control Supervisor Larry Atkinson Administrative Secretary Debbie Latour Guests Present: Barbara Brown — MidCities Community Cats ITEM 2 — REVIEW & APPROVE MEETING MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 16, 2020 Director Cranor asked if there were any comments or questions regarding the minutes of March 17, 2021. With no questions or comments, the minutes were accepted as written. ITEM 3 — UPDATE ON GAP Supervisor Atkinson reported that GAP held a virtual Walk -A -Thou on April 24th, raising $19,000. They also held 2 adoption events at the Pet Supermarket in Colleyville on 4/10 and 5122, with 4 dogs and 1 dog adopted, respectively. a few TCU sororities had a t-shirt competition to raise funds for GAP's Walk-A-Thon and arranged an adoption event. No dogs were adopted but they were able to arrange to get 2 dogs into foster homes. ITEM 4 — QUARTERLY REPORT Back to taking calls as normal. Calls for service have increased as have calls for wild life. The number of feral cats have decreased in 2021 compared to the same time period in Page 1 of 2 2020. Councilman Price asked for clarification of the "too many animals" call; Supervisor Atkinson responded. ITEM 5 — SHELTER / FACILITY UPDATE Supervisor Atkinson reported that he has received his recertification for euthanasia. The shelter has received donations that have been raised by a young woman for her birthday for the past 4 years. The City will be participating in the "Clear the Shelter" from 8/23- 9/19. GAP has offered to buy the material for coyote rollers at the small dog park at the shelter and have a group that has volunteered to install them. Director Cranor and Dr. Read have requested additional information about potential injury risks from coyote rollers. ITEM 6 — QUESTIONS / COMMENTS Director Cranor inquired if the shelter is now open to the public. Supervisor Atkinson reported it is now open to the public. Director Cranor ask if the Board prefers to continue meetings via Zoom and the Board unanimously agreed to continue to move forward with Zoom meetings. Director Cranor then asked if there were any further questions or comments pertaining to the meeting. No questions were indicated. ITEM 7 — ADJOURN The meeting was adjourned at 11:59 A.M.
