HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-12 Euless TodayDear Citizens, I am pleased to share some exciting job announcements. Wes Rhodes has been promoted to Assistant City Manager for the City of Euless. For the past 10 years, Wes served as Fire Chief and focused on community involvement, regional training, empowering the ranks and maintaining open lines of communication. Chanc Bennett has been promoted from Asst. Chief to Fire Chief. Chanc has worked in Euless for 27 years. He's a team player who is passionate about the fire service and will be a great leader for the Euless Fire Department. Heather Moorhead is our new Director of Human Resources and Risk Management. Heather brings a wealth of knowledge to Euless about all things HR and will be a great addition to the team. Lastly, stop by and introduce yourself to our new Director of Planning & Economic Development, Michael Warrix. Michael has great experience in municipal planning, marketing, community development and business recruitment and retention. Wes, Chanc, Heather and Michael all have impressive resumes and exceptional leadership skills. I'm looking forward to working with them in the coming months. Bring your family to the Euless Library on weekends in December to make free holiday ornaments. . 1`( Heritage Park Christmas Saturday, December H,11- 3 p.m. Heritage Park, 201 Cullum Drive After last year's cancellation, you can once again celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas at historic Heritage Park. Visit the Himes Log House, McCormick Barn, Fuller House and the Euless Heritage Museum and learn about Euless history. You can listen to local choirs sing your Christmas favorites, visit our petting zoo and let little ones ride a pony. Kids can visit Santa Claus. There will be kettle corn for sale along with free refreshments for everyone. Holiday cheer and Euless history wrapped up in one great afternoon. Free Christmas Parade of Lights Saturday, Dec. 4, 6:30 p.m. Along Midway Dr. - From 157 to the Aquatic Park parking lot Even a pandemic won't spoil this year's spectacular display of moving lights. Organizations of all kinds may enter floats for free in the best parade in Texas. Parade award winners will be announced on www.eulesstx.gov on Monday, December 6. Rhodes has served as Fire Chief of Euless for the past ten years. Before his career in Euless, Rhodes worked in Haltom City for twenty-five years. Starting his career as a Firefighter/ EMT, he worked his way through the ranks as Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Deputy Fire Chief and finally as Fire Chief. Rhodes has been a Fire Academy Instructor at Tarrant County College since 1995. Rhodes holds an Associate's Degree in Applied Science Fire Technology from Tarrant County College and is a Certified Public Manager through Texas State University. He is a Fire Service Chief Executive Officer through Texas A&M University and holds numerous fire certifications. Animal Shelter Fosters Needed for the Holidays The Euless Animal Shelter needs your support to help keep dogs and cats out of the shelter and in foster homes. Animal rescues are much happier in a home environment. Would you like to help by fostering a dog or cat? We have experienced volunteers who can provide training and resources to answer your questions. Chanc Bennett Promoted to Fire Chief Chanc Bennett has been promoted to Fire Chief for the City of Euless. Bennett has served as the Assistant Fire Chief of Euless for the past three years and Division Chief before that for six years. Bennett has spent the past twenty-seven years in Euless. He is an Adjunct Instructor at the Tarrant County College Fire Service Training Center and is a Technical Search Specialist for Texas Task Force One, a FEMA search and rescue team. He holds an Associate's Degree in Applied Science Fire Protection from Tarrant County College, became a licensed paramedic through UT Southwestern Medical School and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management from West Texas A&M University. He also graduated from the Police Academy at Weatherford College and the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He holds numerous fire certifications and is a graduate of the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy as well as a Certified Fire Executive. Director of Human Resources and Risk Management Announced Heather Moorhead will serve as the new Director of Human Resources and Risk Management. Moorhead most recently worked for the City of Arlington since 2014. She served as the Human Resources Manager first for Employee Services and then for Operations. She also was a Human Resources Consultant (Business Partner). Before working in Arlington, she was the Human Resources Operations Manager for Abeam Consulting for eight years. Moorhead will oversee the city's Human Resources Department which is responsible for recruiting, supporting and retaining skilled employees to ensure a productive, effective staff to provide services to the citizens of Euless. Human Resources also supports departments in matters of employment, benefits, compensation, safety and risk management, health and wellness, employee training, employee events and assisting with promotional testing. Moorhead holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Western Governors University. She is a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute, a Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM-CP) and a Senior Certified Professional (IPMA-HR-SCP) from the International Public Management Association. Director of Planning & Economic Development Named Michael Warrix has accepted the position of Director of Planning & Economic Development for the City of Euless. Warrix was the Director of Planning and Development Services for the City of Abilene, as well as the Director of Planning and Development for the City of Peachtree City, Georgia. As Planning and Economic Development Director he will lead and direct the overall activities of two divisions, Planning and Development and Inspection Services. Warrix will also serve as technical advisor on matters related to planning for several Boards and Commissions as well as the City Council. He will also oversee and direct the City's comprehensive planning activities and Economic Development strategies. He holds a bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Kentucky and is a Certified Planner from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Breakfast With Santa Saturday, December 11, 8:30 -11 a.m. Texas Star Conference Centre 1400 Texas Star Parkway Santa is stopping by Texas Star Conference Centre to enjoy a delicious breakfast with you and your family. Along with breakfast with Santa, local elves will have fun crafts for children of all ages. Bring your camera for a picture with Santa. There will be limited seating to help with social distancing, so reservations are required. Reservations will be made by table only and there will be no payment accepted at the door. Prepaid reservations only, made by December 8 (members receive 15% off): Tables of 4: $60 Tables of 6: $90 Tables of 10: $150 The HEB 2022 Youth in Government Class Starts Soon The HEB 2022 Youth in Government class begins in January. The cities of Hurst, Euless, Bedford and the HEB Chamber of Commerce are partnering to engage students in city government and community involvement. As always, participants have the chance to win a college scholarship! Classes will be held on Mondays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Transportation will not be provided and meetings will be held at various locations in HEB. A light dinner will be provided. Class dates: March 7 & 21 January 10 & 24 April 4 February 7 & 21 April 11— Graduation Applicants must live in Hurst, Euless or Bedford and be a junior or senior in high school by January 1, 2022. Christmas Tree Recycling December 26 - January 8 Euless Family Life Center, Senior Center Parking Lot, 300 W. Midway Drive Don't throw away your live Christmas tree - recycle it! Remove all decorations and lights from your tree and then drop it off at the designated area of Midway Park between December 26 and January 8. The City will mulch your tree to be used throughout the year to maintain parks and medians. On January 8 the Parks Department will host a mulching demonstration from 10 a.m. — 1 p.m. Residents may bring one bag to fill with mulch for their gardens. For more information, call 817-685-1650.
