HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-06-02 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board June 2,2014 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens Other Board Members present: John Raab, Tiffany Smith, and Steve Doty. Members absent:Randy Jones, Carl Miller, and Roger Sickler Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Perry Brockmeyer, Leon Hogg, Loretta Doty, Stephen Schrank, Finance Director Janina Jewell, Council member Jeremy Tompkins. INVOCATION Chairman Owens gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the May 5, 2014 regular meeting. John Raab made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Steve Doty. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report. b. Randy Jones—Bob Eden Park&Trailwood: Not present. c. John Raab — Villages of Bear Creek, Reflection, Preserve, & McCormick: VOBC had a tree down on trail. d. Tiffany Smith—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr: No items to report. e. Roger Sickler—West Park&Wilshire: Not present. f. Carl Miller—Heritage&S. Euless: Not present. g. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 h. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events: • Saturday, May 17, Movie in the Park: Finding Nemo—150 people • Thursday, May 29, Concert Series:Vocal Trash—200 people Upcoming • Saturday,June 14, Movie in the Park: Up! at Villages of Bear Creek • Thursday,June 19, Concert Series:Acoustic Shade at Texas Star Golf Course II. Volunteer of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced the June 2014 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Perry Brockmeyer. Ill. Beautification Award of the Month a. Chairman Owens announced the June 2014 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to Stephen Schrank at 400 Martha St. Mr. Schrank thanked the board for the award. b. Chairman Owens announced the June 2014 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of the Month goes The Arbors of Euless at 900 Fuller-Wiser Road. The Arbors of Euless property manager was not present, the award will be delivered to their property. IV. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Vice Chairman Tiffany Smith reported the following for May 2014: a. Total man hours for May 1-31 = 620 • 281.00 Horticulture • 210.00 Forestry • 101.00 Greenhouse • 28.00 Special Projects • 00.00 Training • Trimmed trees on Mid Cities Blvd. medians, Hwy 10 medians. • Trimmed trees at S. Pipeline Rd. • Trimmed trees at Parks at Texas Star. • Removed tree limbs due to storm damage in parks. • Trimmed trees at City hall complex. V. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • Summer camp &swim lessons have started. All pools are now open. • Concert series partnering with library and TX Star Golf Course. • Senior Center is very busy and active with many new programs. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 b. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • Turned in TAP (Transportation Alternatives Program)grant to COG. • The shell for the Greenhouse on Pauline will be getting renovated. • McCormick trail and gazebo lighting project is in progress. • The Heritage Park fence painting project has also started. • Powerpoint overview of department staff and responsibilities. Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports. VI. Other New Business No new business. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors Council member Jeremy Tompkins thanked the award winners for coming out. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Owens gave the benediction.
