Euless City Council
December 8, 1956
The City Council met in regular session
on December 8, 1956, at 7:30 p.m. With a fu I I Council and the Mayor
present: namely, Mayor Jimmy Payton, presiding, and Councilman Luther
Anders, Lucius Anders, J . S . Anderson, W. H. Fuller, and Ernest M i I I i ca n , Jr.
Also present was City Secretary T. A. Kennard.
Meeting with the Council was Mr. Earl
Stapleton to discuss the appointment of Mr. Stapleton as City Marshal.
On a motion by Councilman Millican,
seconded by Councilman Luther Anders, Mr. Stapleton accepted the appointment
as City Marshal. The motion provided first, that such appointment is
contingent on the resignation of the present City Marshal, Mr. E. V.
Anderson. In which event Mr. Stapleton w i I I serve by appointment only for
the duration of the unexpired term of Mr. E. V. Anderson. Secondly,
while Mr. Stapleton could not promise regular hours, he proposed he spend
25 or 30 hours each week at the job. Thirdly, Mr. Stapleton was permitted
by the Council to remain with the fire department, if he so choose. And
last, Mr. Stapleton was to receive $50.00 each month as salary and an
additional $50.00 per month as car expenses. His term was to begin December
15, 1956. On January 1 he was to receive $50.00. to be paid out of the
regular funds of the City, as car expenses. Another $50.00 was to be paid
him January 15 for salary and such arrangements to continue during his term
of office or until other arrangements are made. The motion received
unanimous approval.
On a second motion by Councilman Luther
Anders, with a second by Councilman Anderson, unanimous approval was given
authorizing the purchase of a sign for the City Fire Hall door, "CITY MARSHAL'.
Similar sign on the door of the City Marshal's car, red lights for the car,
a siren and book of traffic violation tickets. By suggestion, the City
Secretary was designated to investigate about the traffic tickets and the
Mayor was to see about the other items.
The City Secretary was to write a letter
to Cresthaven Water Works notifying them that beginning January 1, 1957, they
are to pay to the City of Euless 2 %gross of their water receipts collected
within the city limits of Euless, payment to be made not later than April
1, 1958, and to continue from year to year.
The City Secretary was to make arrangements
with or have understanding with the fire department about occasional use of
telephone in calling Fort Worth.
The City Secretary was to ascertain,
through Mr. Gleeson, if the Bedford city limits crosses or includes any
part of FM157, north of Euless.

The City Secretary was to inform
I.A.M. union using the City Hall that the east half of the building
belongs to the fire department, and is not to be considered as part of
the hall they are using by agreement: with the city.
