Parks and Leisure Services Board
September 8, 2014
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 pm on
Monday, September 8, 2014, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones, Carl Miller, Steve Doty and
Roger Sickler. Members absent:Tiffany Smith.
Staff members present: Parks & Community Service Director Ray McDonald, Parks Superintendent
Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, and Administrative Secretary Jordan
Peterson.
Visitors present: Loretta Doty, Ian Austin, Leon Hogg, Anthony Cooper—Dairy Queen General
Manager
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the August
4, 2014 regular meeting. Mr. Miller made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and
was seconded by Mr. Doty. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Steve Doty—Midway Park& Blessing Branch—No items to report.
b. Randy Jones— Bob Eden & Trailwood — Brush on ball field, repaint striping on walking
path,Trailwood tree in ditch and various limbs on trails at VOBC.
c. John Raab—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection: No items to report.
d. Tiffany Smith—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr- No items to report.
e. Roger Sickler—Light in Westpark Parking lot out.
f. Carl Miller—No items to report.
g. Chairman Owens—PATS—No items to report.
h. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events:
• August 21—Concert in the Park @ TX Star—Washer& Bri Bagwell—130 ppl

II. Volunteer of the Month
a. Chairman Owens announced the September 2014 Volunteer of the Month award goes
to Shaista Ali & family. This family has helped with many events in Euless. Including
Arbor Daze, Trunk or Treat, Tash off, and many others. They also through their
business were able to donate bottles of water to staff and other volunteers who were
working the events. We are so happy to have the support from the Ali Family. They
were not present to accept the award, it will be delivered to them.
Ill. Beautification Award of the Month
a. Chairman Owens announced the September 2014 Residential Beautification Award of
the Month goes to Ian R. Austin at 2713 Scrimshire Blvd. This resident was nominated
by Euless residents who have noticed this properties outstanding landscape. With
many plants including Banana plants, Caladiums, Lantana, and Vinca that are just a few
on in the yard. A few shrubs including Dwarf Yaupon Holly and Indian Hawthorn mixed
in with Crape Myrtles and a Red Oak set this property apart. Mr. Austin thanked the
Board for the award.
b. Chairman Owens announced that the Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification
Award of the Month goes to Dairy Queen at 700 N. Industrial. This fairly new business
to Euless is already making an impression. They have Maiden Grass surrounding the
property complimented by some Barberry shrubs and Dwarf Yaupon shrubs. They also
have a few Live Oaks growing around their property. It is always kept clean and neat,
which makes for a great addition to Euless. The general manager Mr. Cooper thanked
the board for the award.
IV. Business of the Tree Board
Chairman Owens reported the following for August 2014
a. Total man hours for August 1-31 = 502
• 98.00 Horticulture
• 160.00 Forestry
• 214.00 Greenhouse
• 22.00 Special Projects
• 8.00 Training
➢ Trimmed at McCormick medians.
➢ Finished trimming at Westpark Way and Marlene Dr.
➢ Removed a dead Bradford Pear on Harwood.
➢ Removed a large portion of a Pecan tree at McCormick Park.
➢ Trimmed Crepe Myrtles on Highway 10& Midcities Blvd.
➢ Removed a very large limb hanging from a Pecan tree at Trailwood Park.

V. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson
• Total over 40,000 visits to Aquatic Park over the summer.
• Recreation sold/renewed 265 memberships in August, Senior Center 132.
• Reminder of the Halloween special event and Christmas parade.
b. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald
• Update on trail marker system.
• Fall baseball/soccer leagues begin. Baseball registration is up a total of 54 teams.
• Residents compliments of Aquatic Park staff.
Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports.
VI. Other New Business

VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
No comments.

Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:40 PM.
