HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-1247 05-18-2007RESOLUTION NO. 07 -1247 RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, ON MAY 12, 2007, FOR THE PURPOSE OF FILLING THE CITY COUNCIL POSITIONS OF COUNCIL MEMBER PLACE ONE AND COUNCIL MEMBER PLACE THREE. WHEREAS, there was held in the City of Euless, Texas on the 12th day of May, 2007, a general election at which there were submitted to the duly qualified resident electors of the City of Euless, Texas, for their action and vote therefore candidates for the offices of Council Member Place One and Council Member Place Three. WHEREAS, there were 1,683 registered voters who cast votes at said election; and WHEREAS, only duly qualified resident electors of said City of Euless, Texas, voted at said election, and said election was called and held in strict conformity with the laws of the State of Texas. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: SECTION 1 That the election described in the preamble to this Resolution was duly called and notice thereof given in accordance with the law; that said election was held in the manner required by law; that only duly qualified resident electors of the City of Euless, Texas, voted at said election; that due returns of said election have been made by the proper officers; that votes cast at said election for the offices of Council Member Place One and Council Member Place Three are as follows: TOTAL Place 1 Tim Stinneford 775 Steve Symonds 94 Carl Tyson 699 Place 3 Linda Martin 1,225 George Moore 289 TOTAL VOTERS: 1,683 That the above canvass be, and the same is hereby approved. SECTION 2 That the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, hereby officially declares that a runoff election will be required for the office of Council Member Place One in which the candidates receiving the highest and second highest voters were Tim Stinneford and Carl Tyson. SECTION 3 That the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, hereby officially declares that Linda Martin has been elected to the office of Council Member Place Three until May of 2010, or until her successor is duly elected and qualified. PASSED AND APPROVED at a special called meeting of the Euless City Council on the 18th day of May, 2007, by a vote of 2 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
