Parks and Leisure Services Board
November 6, 2014
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 pm on
Monday, November 3, 2014, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones, Steve Doty, and Roger
Sickler. Members absent:Tiffany Smith & Carl Miller
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks
Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Athletic Supervisor John
Douthit and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson.
Visitors present: Mayor Pro Tem Linda Eilenfeldt, Loretta Doty, Julie Laverty — BESA, David
Osborne—BESA.
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
October 6, 2014 regular meeting. Mr. Raab made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by Mr. Doty. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Steve Doty—Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report.
b. Randy Jones—Bob Eden &Trailwood: No items to report.
c. John Raab—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection: No items to report.
d. Tiffany Smith—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr: Not present.
e. Carl Miller—Heritage &S. Euless: Not present.
f. Roger Sickler- West Park & Wilshire: #2 ball field bench needs repairs, Wilshire
playground tunnel has graffiti.
g. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report.
h. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events:
• October 31—Trunk or Treat at EFLAP, around 4,000 attendees
Upcoming
• November 7—Texas Arbor Day: Parks will hand out trees at greenhouse 11-2pm
• November 19—Senior Holiday Luncheon: 11:30 am at EFLSC
• December 6—Christmas Parade of Lights: on Midway at 6:30 pm
• December 13—Heritage Park Christmas: at 1pm-5pm at Heritage Park

II. Volunteer of the Month
a. Chairman Owens announced the November 2014 Volunteer of the Month award goes
to Mercedes Chardin. She was nominated by an employee at the Euless Family Life
Center for the time and effort she puts in helping at the recreation center. Ms. Chardin
comes in often to help clean the facility, and other tasks that the staff may need help
with that day. She has been an asset in helping translate information to members who
speak limited English. Ms. Chardin was not present to accept her award.
Ill. Business of the Tree Board
Vice Chairman John Raab reported the following for October 2014:
a. Total man hours for October= 611
• 332.00 Horticulture
• 247.00 Forestry
• 91.00 Greenhouse
• 0.00 Special Projects
• 32.00 Training
o Trimmed trees at dog park at the Villages of Bear Creek.
o Trimmed trees at Facility Maintenance Building.
o Trimmed items at Fire Station#3.
o Removed tree at Bob Eden Park due to storm damage.
o Removed limbs in Parks due to storm damage.
IV. Athletic Association Report
a. Parks at Texas Star—John Douthit
• Reported on league and tournament numbers for 2014 as well as sponsorships,
maintenance, and scheduled events for 2015.
b. Bedford-Euless Soccer Association—Julie Laverty
• Total 925 registered players, 508 of them are Euless resident.
• Reported on budgetary items and future tournaments/field usage.

V. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson
• Euless Family Life Center Holiday hours/closures and project updates.
• Update on Parade of Lights/other upcoming events.
b. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald
• Attendance numbers for the EFLC, EFLSC, EFLAP, Natatorium, PATS & SBW
exceeded expectation.
• PATS next phase/future of park system.
Chairman Owens thanked them for their reports.
VI. Other New Business
Next Park Board meeting will be held at the Park Maintenance Shop located at 1997C S. Pipeline
Rd. West.
VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
No input from visitors.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
