HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-01-05 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board January 5,2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:06 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015 in the Pre-Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Vice Chairman John Raab. Other Board Members present: Randy Jones, Steve Doty, Salman Bhojani, Jason Reyes. Members absent: Eric Owens,Tiffany Smith, and Roger Sickler. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Senior Center Supervisor Diane Eggers and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty and David Banning. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Vice Chairman Raab asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the December 1st 2014 regular meeting. Mr. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Doty. The vote was unanimous. 1. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report. b. Randy Jones—Bob Eden &Trailwood: No items to report. c. John Raab—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection: No items to report. d. Tiffany Smith—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr: Not present. e. Roger Sickler-West Park&Wilshire: Not present. f. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star: Not present. Vice Chairman Raab announced the January 2015 Volunteer of the Month award goes to David Banning with Potbelly's Sandwiches. As a new business in Euless, Mr. Banning immediately wanted to be a part of the volunteer team with the city. They instantly participated in the City's Halloween event and Heritage Park Christmas. Mr. Banning and his team are huge supporters of the city, and we are very glad to have them in Euless. Mr. Banning accepted his award and thanked the board. IV. Business of the Tree Board Randy Jones reported the following for December: a. Total man hours for December 1-31 =719 • 321.00 Horticulture • 132.00 Forestry • 90.00 Greenhouse • 112.00 Special Projects • 64.00 Training • Planted four willow trees at the Preserve. • Planted 10 trees at Midway Park including Cedar, Red Oak, Live Oak, Burr Oak, & Pecan. • Planted five Sycamore trees at Bob Eden Park. • Trimmed trees in parks and along trails • Removed fallen limbs due to high winds throughout park system. V. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Staff Report—Diane Eggers • Discussed her background with the city and the success of the Senior Center. b. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • New gym floor is complete and new treadmills and dumbbells. • Special Event Report: • December 6—Christmas Parade of lights—Very successful turnout • December 13—Heritage Park Christmas—750 people • January 3—FLC Open House &Tree Recycling—successful Upcoming • February 13—Senior Center Valentine Party @ 12 pm in the Senior Center • February 13- Daddy/Daughter Dance @ 6:30 pm in the Senior Center • February 14—Mother/Son Brunch @ 10:30 am in the Senior Center • February 14—Historical Mural Unveiling @ 1:30 pm at Ruth Millican Center Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • Explained Master Plan to new Park Board members. • Discussed demolition of South Euless pool. • Discussed park safety checks and park reports. Vice Chairman Raab thanked the staff for their reports. VI. Other New Business Discussed Election of Officers to be moved to next meeting as there was not enough regular members present. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input or comments. ADJOURNMENT Mr. Jones gave the benediction.
