Minutes
February 9, 2015
CALL TO ORDER
Chairwoman Barbara Collier called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m. The meeting was
held at Euless City Hall, 201 N. Ector Drive, Euless,
MEMBERS PRESENT
Perry Brockmeyer, Doris Brown, Michele Burger, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon,
Barbara Collier, Bill Golden, Leon Hogg, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, David
and Veva Lou Massey, Shirley Mercer, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Mary Lib Saleh,
Faye Stinneford, Helen Voss and Mavy Wright
RECOGNITION OF VISITORS

STAFF PRESENT

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was noted that Robert Nail's name was misspelled on the minutes. It was also noted
by Weldon Cannon indicated that John Calhoun taught at the Euless School from 1897
to 1899 and was President of the University of Texas from 1937 to 1939. Leon Hogg
made a motion to approve the minutes with the corrections. Don Martin seconded the
motion. Motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The balance at the beginning of January 1, 2015 was $11,712.47. There was $12 from
the donation jar. The balance as of February 1, 2015 is $11,724.47.
GUEST SPEAKER
Lisa McNamara, the artist who painted the mural for the Museum spoke about the work
involved in the painting of the mural. She noted that the mural is a work in progress and
can be added to and various items can be changed as needed. The Committee would
like to add a "Key" to the display with explanations of various objects on the painting.
The unveiling of the mural will be on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Bill Byers and Gary
Parker will have a plaque recognizing the artists' that worked on the mural displayed
near the mural.
NEW BUSINESS
1. It was reported that health wise, Iris Elliott and Peggy Vandiver are improving.
2. The newest Sub-Committee list was passed out for members to update.

3. Leon Hogg is working on finding someone to fix the Victrola and Piano. This is an
ongoing project and he will report back to the Committee once it's done.
4. Barbara Collier scheduled an Arbor Daze meeting for February 18, 2015 at 11 a.m.
Everyone was invited to attend.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docent Reports/Recruitment—Mavy Wright
a. TCC Senior Class Tour—February 12 at 10 a.m. List of docents was read off.
b. Open House on February 14, 2015 was discussed. The mural will be unveiled at
1:30 p.m. A list of docents for the event was read off. The event was advertised
in the newspaper and all the City's publications, etc.
2. Acquisitions
a. The need for a mannequin to display one of the military uniforms was discussed.
The item will be purchased.
b. Leon Hogg donated a couple of advertisement brochures from 1915 and the
1930's.
3. Library Display\Website \ Facebook—Bill Golden
a. No report
4. Heritage Park—Gary Parker
a. Still working on the storage room in the Museum.
b. Reported that a rabid fox ran into the kitchen while he was working in there one
day. He called Animal Control.
c. Gary will work on adding some adjustable racks in the scrapbook closet.
d. The heat in the Fuller House is still not working but Ray McDonald is working on
it.
e. It was mentioned that a "Non-Euless Section" in the Military could be added. A
photo and write up about Audie Murphy could be included in this section.
5. Local Historical Marker—Weldon Cannon
a. A manuscript pertaining to Education in Euless has been written that can be
used in the application process for a Texas State Historical Marker. More editing
will be done on the manuscript. The Committee would also need to approve it.
b. Mentioned that Meacham Field was recently approved to receive a Texas State
Historical Marker. He explained that one time Euless Mayor, W.G. Fuller was a
big supporter of Meacham Field.
c. Reported that the City of Denton was recently approved to receive two Texas
State Historical Marker. An article was in the Dallas Morning News about the
markers.

d. Weldon Cannon has manuscripts regarding the subject of the "Affects of Aviation
on Euless". Eventually he hopes that an application can be submitted for a Texas
State Historical Marker on the subject.
6. Publicity—Barbara Collier
a. Gave a reminder to put out the open house signs at member homes.
b. Noted that the Star Telegram started a section called the HEB News. Staff
indicated that information has been sent to them regarding the mural unveiling.
c. Mrs. Collier reported that she lists open house information in the examiner.com
website that Judy Ramos runs.
5. Plaque—Faye Stinneford
a. Will add Barbara Collier to the Chairman Plaque and Mavy Wright to the Vice-
Chairman plaque.
6. Display Signs—Mavy Wright
a. Signs are an ongoing project. Staff is helping with three signs for the School
Room.
7. Library History \ Genealogy Room—Bill Golden
a. No report
8. Oral History \ Photography—Gary Fieldsend
a. Staff is working on Robert Nail's interview.
9. Historical Albums—Marilyn Long
a. The Sub-Committee has a meeting scheduled for later in the day.
b. Albums will be made available at this Saturday's open house.
10.Artifact Recovery
a. Andy Weinzapfel emailed a report and it was read to the Committee.
b. Weldon Cannon expressed his high regards for Mr. Weinzapfel's meticulous
work ethics regarding the metal detecting field.
11.Historical Marker Application—Bill Golden
a. No report
12.Tarrant County Historical Commission—Leon Hogg
a. No report.
CHAIRMANS REPORT
1. Barbara Collier will review the Project List for the Museum.

2. Felt that the Wednesday workdays may need to be reduced to twice a month or to
an as needed basis.
STAFF REPORT
1. T-shirts were handed out to the members. Members who were not present may
arrange to pick up their shirts.
2. Gary Fieldsend has been contracted to work on the Historical brochure.
COMMITTEE /OTHER REPORTS
1. Helen Voss and Bill Golden were instrumental in working on the Historical Mural.
The project started in 2011. Mrs. Voss isn't able to be at the unveiling but members
were thankful for all her work to get the mural project done. Veva Lou Massey
thought the mural looked wonderful.
2. Bill Golden asked if anyone was able to acquire a photo of Bob Eden in his military
uniform for the Military Room. It was noted that there doesn't seem to be one
available.
3. Michele Burger reported on the following:
a. Dave and Busters founder passed away.
b. Working with one of the local banks to see if they would allow Historical
Committee information to be displayed on their electronic signs.
c. Dan Burger has been on three metal detecting projects with Andy Weinzapfel.
d. Gave a reminder about the Boards and Commission dinner on February 23, 2015
at 6:30 p.m. Members need to RSVP.
4. Weldon Cannon gave Mavy Wright a milk can that was once used and belonged to
her grandfather. Mrs. Wright also has a milk stool that once belonged to him.
ADJOURNMENT
Leon Hogg made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Perry Brockmeyer seconded the
motion. Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:43 a.m.
