HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-04-04 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board April 04, 2022 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m.. On Monday, April, 04, 2022, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Magen Brown, Steve Doty, Kay Seger, Isha Sharma, Roger Sickler and Jason Reyes. Members absent: John Raab. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Daniel Dearborn, Parks Superintendent Ryan Turner, Recreation Superintendent Elizabeth Johnson and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: None INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March 07, 2022 regular meeting. Isha Sharma asked to make corrections to Board Member Reports. Chairman Jones made the motion to correct the minutes as presented and will ask for approval at next Park Board meeting. I. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown—Reflection &Villages of Bear Creek: No items to report. b. Steve Doty—Heritage &S. Euless: No items to report. c. John Raab—Preserve & McCormick: Not present. d. Roger Sickler—J.A. Carr& Kiddy Carr: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes—Bob Eden &Trailwood: No items to report. f. Kay Seger—Midway& Blessing Branch: No items to report. g. Isha Sharma—West Park&Wilshire: No items to report. h. Chairman Jones—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for (March 1st—31st 2022): a. Total man hours March 1st—31st =577 • 202 Horticulture • 231 Forestry • 74 Greenhouse • 65 Special Projects • 5 Training > Trimmed Crepe Myrtles Along Mid Cities, Main St.,Trojan Trail and Fair Oaks > Removed dead Elm near Midway Park swings > Removed 2 dead Elms along Midway Park field 4 fence > Fertilized all shrub beds > Installed new playground chips at J.A. Carr Park > Turned on water fountains ➢ Removed Bob Eden Playground, performed dirt work, and began install of new playground > Painted the bird watching station's bench at The Preserve ➢ Painted bleachers at West Park > Cut back grasses along Mid Cities > Trimmed trees in Harwood medians and cleaned out beds ➢ Began planting Spring color > Potted 100 forest service trees III. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report—Elizabeth Johnson • Elizabeth reported on Kites of Euless. The weather was great and we had over 100 people in attendance. 100 Kites were handed out. • Elizabeth reported that the Spring Field day was cancelled due to weather. • Elizabeth stated that Arbor Daze will be held on April 30, 2022. Liz reported on several activities that will be there such as a Magic show, Zoofari, Kid Zone, a food eating contest and King George Tribute band. • Elizabeth reported on a few summer activities. The splash pad will open on May 16, 2022. There have been several updates to the splash pad. • Elizabeth stated that the Aquatic Park will open on May 28, 2022. We are currently staffing the park and accepting applications. • Elizabeth gave an overview of Summer camp. We have made a few changes and are looking forward to another camp. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 • Elizabeth reminded the board to review the Summer playbook. They are many classes being offered. Tumbling is a new addition and has really taken off. b. Parks Report—Ryan Turner • Ryan reported on the new playground mulch that was added at J.A. Carr park. • Ryan gave an overview of the removal of the playground at Bob Eden and also reported that the Parks department is preparing the site for a new playground. • Ryan reported that new concrete bridges are being added at Heritage Park on the trail. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. 1111. Other New Business • No new business to report. V.
