HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-1301 11-25-2008RESOLUTION NO. 08 -1301 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF A METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT AND SUPPORTING VOTER CONSIDERATION OF FUNDING OPTIONS WHEREAS, the City of Euless supports regional efforts to address the mobility and air quality needs of the citizens of North Texas; and WHEREAS, implementing the passenger rail service component of the Metropolitan Mobility Plan of the Regional Transportation Council is essential in addressing the mobility and air quality needs of the citizens of North Texas; and WHEREAS, local elected officials, business leaders and transportation professionals in North Texas have studied revenue options to fund transportation and regional rail expansion; and WHEREAS, seeking legislative authority for local option funding sources for transportation including regional rail expansion appears to be the best solution to address North Texas mobility and air quality challenges. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: SECTION 1 THAT the 81st Texas Legislature be and hereby is urged to authorize the establishment of a metropolitan area transportation district to levy, subject to voter approval, fees and taxes — vehicle registration fee, motor fuels excise tax, mileage fee, property tax, driver's license fee and new resident impact fee — issue debt; fund operations, maintenance, capital and debt service expenses for passenger rail, transit, roadways and freight rail; and contract with other entities to provide mobility services and implement projects. PRESENTED AND APPROVED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 25th day of November, 2008, by a vote of 7 ayes, o nays, and 0 abstentions.
