HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-04-11Called Meeting Euless City Council April 11, 1957 The meeting of the special session of the City Council of the City of Euless, Texas, held on April 11, 1957„ at 7 :30 p.m., was called to order by Mayor Ernest Mi l l ican, Jr. Members of the Council present were Councilmen J. S. Anderson, S. H. Cadenhead, Paul Horton, and W. 0. Murray. Councilman G. L. Anders was absent. Present at the Mayor's request was City Attorney Geo. P. Gleeson. Also meeting with the Council for .information and future agreement were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph H. Henslee and Mr. Hartman. Reading of the minutes of previous meetings were postponed by Mayor M i l l i c a n 1E- There were no reports of officers and committees and the purpose of the meeting was general. A motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Murray, was to the effect that whereas on April 6, 1957, T. A. Kennard was hired as City Secretary, by oversight, "and building commissioner" was not included. Therefore, the motion provided that T. A. Kennard be rehired as building commission. Motion adopted by unanimous vote. A motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Horton, stated that the hiring of Earl Stapleton on April 6, 1957, as Chief of Police at the same salary and expense account as was agreed upon as Deputy City Marshal, namely $50.00 per month salary and $50.00 per month expense account. The motion was unanimously adopted. A motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Murray, was stated "We approve the recommendation for the speed zone on Highway 183 through the city limits of the City of Euless as recommended by the Texas State Highway Department." The motion was adopted by a vote of three for, one against. Voting for adoption were Councilmen Anderson, Horton, and Murray. Voting against and registering his protest as of record in the minutes of this meeting was Councilman Cadenhead. (See strip map of highway department.) On a motion by Councilman Cadenhead, seconded by Councilman Horton, verbatim, "That the City of Euless give Mr. Ralph Henslee 90 calendar days to complete the entire project according to specifications acceptable to the County Engineer, or the court proceedings be executed without f u r t h e r debate. In the event the water l i n e is l a i d in Broadway Avenue at any later date, the repairing of the streets will be left up to Mr. Ralph Henslee and the Municipal Service Company to replace without any expense to the City." The motion was unanimously adopted. Mr. Henslee agreed to post a new bond i n a sum acceptable to the City Engineer and abide by the provisions of the City Council as enumerated in this motion. 170 (Page Two, Called Meeting, Euless City Council, April 11, 7957) On the.advice of Attorney Gleason, Mr. Hartman was advised that the Council could not issue him a building permit until a street has been dedicated in front of his lot and the provisions of Ordinance No. 50 are complied with. By request of the City Secretary, a motion to consider his salary was tabled for future discussion.
