HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-1334 01-26-2010RESOLUTION NO. 10 -1334 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EULESS APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDING FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ONE OR MORE SEGMENTS OF THE REGIONAL VELOWEB SYSTEM WITHIN THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, AND FURTHER CLARIFYING TO THE COMMITMENT OF FUNDING THE REQUIRED TWENTY (20 %) PERCENT MATCH AND ANY COST OVERRUNS FOR ONE OR BOTH TRAIL SEGMENTS. WHEREAS, as part of the long range planning efforts of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), the Regional Veloweb has been adopted as part of the Mobility 2010 Plan; and WHEREAS, the Veloweb is a designated off - street trail network planned to provide bicycle and pedestrian connections in the Dallas -Fort Worth Metroplex, and a portion of the Veloweb lies within the City of Euless, Texas; and; WHEREAS, the City of Euless Trail System Master Plan is in place, and a portion of this trail system is also that portion of the Veloweb at the State Highway 121 and State Highway 157 merge area, near Mid - Cities Boulevard; and WHEREAS, this section of trail will run along Little Bear Creek, underneath five (5) bridges, all of which lie within the State of Texas Department of Transportation right - of -way for State Highway 121 and State Highway 157; and WHEREAS, this trail segment will connect on the east to existing Creekwood Addition and Bob Eden Trail and will connect on the west to the Glade Park Development, and then proceed northwestward toward Heritage Drive; and WHEREAS, another section of the trail which is part of the Veloweb System will run from just west of the SH 121 southbound service road, through the Glade Park Development, connecting to Heritage Drive; and WHEREAS, the City of Euless is submitting a grant application for funding for construction of these remaining trail segments to the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the Texas Department of Transportation; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Euless adopted Resolution No. 09- 1324 on November 24, 2009, in support of these two trail segments and their related grant nominations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Euless supports the Euless application for grant funding for segments of the Regional Veloweb System that lie within the City of Euless; and SECTION 2. Further, the City Council of the City of Euless commits to fund the required twenty (20 %) percent grant funding match, as well as any cost overruns on one or both of these trail segments. APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 26th day of January 2010, by a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, and o abstentions.
