Here are a few rules of the road related to school zones that drivers should keep in mind: • Obey school zone speed limit signs. • Put away your cell phone. • Obey the crossing guard. • Drop off and pick up children in the designated areas. • Watch for children running between vehicles. • Stop for flashing red lights or a stop sign on a school bus regardless of which direction you're headed. Continue once the bus has moved, the flashing lights stop flashing or the bus driver signals it's okay to pass. Kids are unpredictable, so drivers must take precautions in and around school zones. When you adopt, you save two lives — the pet you adopt and the pet that now has a place in the shelter. In 2014, Clear the Shelters began in the DFW area to help ease the overcrowding that occurs in shelters every summer. This pet adoption drive quickly spread to cities across the U.S. In fact, more than 700,000 pets across the country have found their forever homes since 2015. Join us August 15 through 20, as we seek to Clear the Shelters and find new homes for some amazing pets! Conserving As temperatures rise and rainfall decreases, it becomes more important than ever to conserve water. Euless residents fall under a time of day watering ordinance that prohibits watering outdoors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. year-round. The rules apply to City water customers who use automatic and non -automatic irrigation systems as well as garden hose -attached sprinklers to water their lawns. The ordinance provides allowances for watering home foundations, lawns and new landscape plantings by handheld hose, drip irrigation or soaker hose. How to save water: • Reduce your watering frequency to once every four days. This encourages deeper, more drought -tolerant roots. • If it rains an inch or more, wait at least five days to water. • Mulch trees and plants to retain moisture, prevent evaporation and limit weed growth. _. • Plant native or adapted plant and grass varieties that require little supplemental water once established. • Use drip irrigation systems for bedded plants, trees and shrubs. • Adjust automatic sprinkler heads so that they water your landscaping, not the pavement or sidewalks. • Water lawns during the early morning or evening hours to prevent evaporation. • Never water on windy days. Besides being irritating, they can also spread disease, such as West Nile virus, Zika virus and the St. Louis encephalitis virus. The City of Euless traps mosquitoes weekly in different areas of the City. Tarrant County then tests those mosquitos for diseases. If a mosquito is positive for mosquito -borne illnesses, the City of Euless will then spray that area for mosquitos. Mosquito spraying is typically done after 10 p.m. when most people are indoors. Spraying will not take place when it's raining or when wind speeds are 10 mph or greater. During the spraying, you do not need to do anything special, since the spray droplets falling on the ground become inactive in just a few hours or with sunshine (UV You can get advance, email notice ofmosquito spraying in your neighborhood by signing up for "Community Alerts" at www.eulesstx.gov/enotification.
