HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-04-06 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board April 6,2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:02 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015 in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Randy Jones, Tiffany Smith, Steve Doty, Jason Reyes, and Salman Bhojani. Board Members absent: Roger Sickler Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Aquatics Tech Brandon Foley, and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty and Mavy Wright. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March 2, 2015 regular meeting. Mr. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Jason Reyes—Midway Park& Blessing Branch: No items to report. b. Salman Bhojani—Bob Eden &Trailwood: No items to report. c. Tiffany Smith—Villages of Bear Creek& Reflection: No items to report. d. Roger Sickler—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr: Not present. e. John Raab-West Park&Wilshire: No items to report. f. Chairman Owens—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. g. Randy Jones—Preserve& McCormick Park: No items to report. h. Steve Doty—Heritage Park&South Euless: No items to report. i. Chairman Owens reported on the following Special Events: • March 10—Home Town Food Bank—60 people • March 13—Concert in the Park(Beyond Pale)—100 people Upcoming • April 11—Trash off 8am—12pm at Villages of Bear Creek • April 24/25—Arbor Daze 5pm-9pm on Friday and 9am-10pm on Saturday Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Volunteer of the Month Chairman Owens announced the April 2015 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Mavy Wright. Ms. Wright is not only an active member of our historical board, but helps tremendously with our museum and its activities. As Vice-Chairman of the board her responsibilities include all signage, scheduling of docents, and scheduling of volunteers for tours of the museum, and open house. She can always be counted on to help with special projects at the museum, and really has a commitment to preserving the history of Euless. Ms. Wright was able to accept her award and thanked the board. Ill. Business of the Tree Board Tiffany Smith reported the following for March: a. Total man hours for February 1-31 = 696 • 272.00 Horticulture • 180.00 Forestry • 183.00 Greenhouse • 28.00 Special Projects • 33.00 Training • Trimmed trees on Westpark Way, Westpark field#3 and Midway Park field#4. • Planted 6 Crepe Myrtles at Veteran's Field. • Fertilized newly planted trees. • Removed tree at Villages of Bear Creek Park. • Removed fallen limbs throughout Park system. IV. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Staff Report—Brandon Foley • Brief introduction of history as an employee with Euless. • Update on Wilshire pool. b. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • New summer Playbook has been mailed out, and is available to public. • First phase of Summer Camp lottery is complete, introducing new 1 week camps. • Senior Center held Health Fair—135 people attended. c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald • South Euless pool demolition update. • Updated board on new mowing contractors. • Trail update at J.A. Carr Park. • Trail Marker project update.
