MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
LIBRARY BOARD
THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2022
ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order by Chairperson Barney Snitz at
7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022, in the Meeting Room of the Library, 201 N. Ector Drive.
Those present included: Chairperson Snitz, Vice Chairperson Jorge Chac, and Board Members
Jim Hamilton, Katherine Flannery, Rochelle Ragas, Mavy Wright, and Chris McAllister. Board
Member Mike McGehee was not present.

ITEM NO.2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
Chairperson Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held May 5,
2022. The motion was made by Board Member McAllister and seconded by Board
Member Hamilton. All were in favor and the motion carried.
ITEM NO.3 WELCOMED VISITORS
Chairperson Snitz welcomed all visitors.
ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
❖ Staff Spotlight
Ms. Knight introduced Daniella Tillman and Mariah Flores, part time library aides, to the Board.
Both gave a brief overview of her personal and professional background and library
responsibilities.
Vice Chairperson Chac thanked them for their passionate work in the library.
LuAnn inquired of Ms. Tillman about her reading preferences and whether the collection supplied
her well enough in these genres and Ms. Tillman confirmed that it did.

❖ Library Update
Ms. Knight gave a review of library usage statistics and "Stories of Impact" that have taken place
over the past month. Ms. Knight gave a brief review of the "HEB Reads! Kickoff' event and Ms.
Knight thanked Board Members Flannery and Snitz for volunteering.
❖ Classes and Events Update
Ms. Knight discussed current programs, classes, and events including the start of a new summer
music education program, "SoundStarts." Ms. Knight reviewed the "HEB Reads! Summer
Reading Challenge," including the special events that are a part of this: "Dallas Zoo Animal
Adventures," "Wildlife on the Move," "Austin Reptile Show," and "Family Fun Weekends." Ms.
Knight mentioned that the `Book an Expert" previewed last month is now up and running.
ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS
Library Board Chairperson
Mr. Snitz mentioned other events and fundraisers happening throughout the city and discussed his
experience at the "HEB Reads Kickoff!" commenting on the positive experience.
Library Board Vice Chairperson
Vice Chairperson Chac inquired about the TAG group and Ms. Knight stated its purpose of the
teens helping to plan their own programs and events and take an active part in their space at the
library. Ms. Jones gave an example of one of their suggested events, the "Summer Field Day."
Vice Chairperson Chac asked if the Book an Expert had options for other languages.
Vice Chairperson Chac asked if we had books in braille and Ms. Knight stated that we do not but
that Arlington does and that current technology tends to supersede the need for braille.
Vice Chairperson Chac complimented the staff for their ability to always find a way to provide the
patron with what they're looking for or needing and that he greatly appreciated our efforts in that
regard.
Library Board Members
Mr. Hamilton asked if the TAG group had the same teens in it or if they changed and Ms. Jones
stated that there was a core group of teen volunteers and that other teens attend intermittently.
Mr. Hamilton asked how many were involved and Ms. Knight stated anywhere from 10-20 people.
Ms. Jones stated that they are taking on roles of leadership and stated that many are serving for
school volunteer and college resume needs.

Mr. Chac stated that it also helps them blossom and Ms. Jones agreed and said it gives them
ownership and a sense of accomplishment.
Mr. Hamilton said that teen volunteering creates future leaders.
Ms. Ragas stated that she would like to visit a TAG meeting and Ms. Jones welcomed her to do
SO.
Mr. McAllister inquired about how the books are curated and how a patron might seek out a
specific item. Ms. Knight informed him of all the ways one could do this including the online
Suggest a Purchase form.
Mr. Hamilton asked about our language books and Ms. Jones stated where to find them.
Mr. McAllister asked about the Mobi and asked how we used it. Ms. Jones stated that we used it
as a featured item at programs such as "Sensory Seekers," "SOHO," and "Clubhouse for Kids"
and that they plan on taking it to the senior center, as well.
Ms. Flannery mentioned the use of the Mobi at the "HEB Reads Kickoff!" and even though it was
hot where it was housed, kids did not want to leave.
ITEM NO.6 PUBLIC COMMENTS
LuAnn Portugal, Euless, Texas, gave a development update.
Ms. Portugal asked if our special events could be recorded or shown live on Facebook and Ms.
Knight and Ms. Jones mentioned the issue of certain rights but that they would investigate it.
Ms. Knight stated that we record several of our early literacy classes for the local cable channel.
ITEM NO.7 ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Board Member
Hamilton and seconded Board Member Ragas. The meeting was adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
