Historical Preservation Committee
Minutes
March 9, 2015
CALL TO ORDER
Chairwoman Barbara Collier called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The meeting was
held at Euless City Hall, 201 N. Ector Drive, Euless,
MEMBERS PRESENT
Perry Brockmeyer, Doris Brown, Barbara Collier, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, David
Massey, Gary Parker, Mavy Wright, Robert Nail, Bill Byers, Iris Elliott, Gary Barnhill,
Gary Fieldsend, Helen Payton, Leon Hogg, Michelle Burger, Joe Cannon, Don Martin

STAFF PRESENT

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Don Martin made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Marilyn Long seconded
the motion. Motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The balance was $11 ,724.47. There was a deposit of $13.13 and $74 making the final
balance, $11,811.60.
GUEST SPEAKER
There was no guest speaker.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Euless Historical Preservation Committee Forum. Discussed goals for the next two,
five and ten years.
a. Need listings for mural on each side.
b. Explore idea of having exhibit space in the Library.
c. Have a rotating exhibit.
d. Have a cultural display on a temporary basis.
e. Have a wedding dress display on a temporary basis.
f. Idea of purchasing the property north of the Museum.
g. Discussed using Fuller House as showcase for artifacts from 1930 until current.
h. Discussed hiring full time staff member and/or part time curator.
i. Explore using people outside the Committee to help with projects.
j. Check with history teacher at Trinity High School for volunteer students.
k. Develop a docent presentation on DVD for docents to study.

I. Work on the Blacksmith Shop.
m. The Committee was asked by the Dad's Club at North Euless Elementary School
to give a presentation about the history of the school.
2. Arbor Daze
a. Put a table outside the Library to draw people to the Historical displays.
b. Print a "wish list" for display at the event.
c. Include and display items that the public can see at the Museum.
d. Use A-frame displays.
e. Need two TV screens.
f. Need measurements of the room.
g. Put signs inside the bus about the Historical display.
h. Distribute fliers on the festival grounds for people to go see the historical display
in the library.
i. Announce the Historical display at intervals on the main stage.
j. Tickets for raffle on the grounds to visit the Historical display.
3. Curtains were washed and Barbara Collier asked the members to them up during
open house.
4. Historical Mural
a. Ask Lisa McNamara to paint the Beacon, Calloway Cemetery, and Fuller
Brothers on the History Mural. A couple of houses need to be re-done on the
Mural.
b. The Committee wants to see the files and/or records where the items painted on
Mural are shown. Some likenesses needed to be re-done.
c. The Committee unanimously agreed that Ms. McNamara should be
compensated for new work to the Mural.
d. Legend for the Mural will be completed once all the additions above are
completed.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docent Reports / Recruitment—Mavy Wright
e. Private tour on Thursday, February 12, 2015 had 34 people and Robert Nail was
the highlight of the event.
f. Open House on February 14, 2015 had about 134 visitors.
2. Acquisitions—Bill Byers
a. A lady from South Dakota is bringing some items to donate.
3. Library Display \ Website \ Facebook—Bill Golden

4. Heritage Park—Gary Parker
a. Still planning to work on the Blacksmith Shop.
5. Local Historical Marker—Weldon Cannon
a. Mr. Cannon and his wife Patty attended a Texas State Historical Association
event recently and Joe Green Bishop spoke at the event.
6. Publicity—Barbara Collier
a. Asked everyone to put out their open house signs.
b. Will be able to advertise on the Euless First United Methodist Church digital sign.
c. Michelle Burger reported that My Credit Union agreed to advertise open house
on their digital sign.
7. Plaque—Faye Stinneford
a. No report
8. Display Signs—Mavy Wright
a. Three signs for the School Room will be installed soon.
9. Library History \ Genealogy Room—Bill Golden
a. No report
10.Oral History \ Photography—Gary Fieldsend
a. Will provide photos to be used for a presentation that Bill Byers will be giving.
11.Historical Albums—Marilyn Long
a. The Sub-committee was able to get several albums done for the February open
house.
b. Prioritizing the albums and identifying people, etc.
c. Will schedule upcoming meetings.
12.Artifact Recovery—Andy Weinzapfel
a. No Report
13. Historical Marker Application—Bill Golden
a. No report
14.Tarrant County Historical Commission—Leon Hogg
a. Remove this item from the agenda.
CHAIRMANS REPORT
1. Thanked everyone who updated and signed up to work on various Sub-committees.

2. Will email the Sub-committee list to the staff.
3. Discussed possibility of taking a tour of the Irving Heritage Museum.
STAFF REPORT
1. Painting of the Fuller House will be done today.
COMMITTEE / OTHER REPORTS
1. Robert Nail reported what a great help Jane Njuguna is to him. They are working on
a couple of projects together.
2. The Committee will start meeting twice a month for special workdays instead of
weekly. Meetings will be on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.
3. Michele Burger has been putting out Euless brochures at the Grapevine Visitor's
Center. Granbury will also display Euless brochures at their visitor station.
ADJOURNMENT
David Massey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gary Parker seconded the
motion. Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:44 a.m.
