HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-06-06Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board June 06, 2022 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. On Monday, June, 06, 2022, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Roger Sickler and Jason Reyes. Members absent: Isha Sharma, Magen Brown, Steve Doty and Kay Seger. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Recreation Superintendent Elizabeth Johnson, Park Superintendent Ryan Turner and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: Council Member Jeremy Tompkins. INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the May 02, 2022 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by John Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Magen Brown — Reflection & Villages of Bear Creek: Not present. b. Steve Doty — Heritage & S. Euless: Not present. c. John Raab — Preserve & McCormick: No items to report. d. Roger Sickler — J.A. Carr & Kiddy Carr: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes — Bob Eden & Trailwood: No items to report. f. Kay Seger — Midway & Blessing Branch: Not present. g. Isha Sharma — West Park & Wilshire: Not present. h. Chairman Jones — Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for May 15t— 31512022: a. Total man hours for May 15t — 315Y 2022 = 336 • 230 Horticulture • 60 Forestry • 26 Greenhouse • 20 Special Projects • 0 Training ➢ Mulched McCormick and Mack Drive beds ➢ Trimmed shrubs and trees around Public Works building ➢ Trimmed shrubs around Library, Animal Control, along Westpark Way, and at J.A. Carr Park ➢ Sprayed HWY 10, Pipeline, and Main St. ➢ Installed new water fountain at Trailwood Park ➢ Installed playground chips at Bob Eden Park and added chips to VOBC and Midway Park ➢ Repaired drip irrigation and planted Senior Center beds ➢ Stump grinded at VOBC, South Euless Park and West McCormick ➢ Mulched and planted Aquatic Park ➢ Removed trees along Mid Cities median ➢ Removed dead tree at City Hall ➢ Planted Harwood Medians ➢ Began resurfacing Bob Eden Tennis courts Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report — Elizabeth Johnson • Elizabeth Johnson reported on the Summer Concert: Tennessee Whiskey that took place on 5/06/2022. The weather was great and there were about 150 people in attendance. • Elizabeth Johnson stated that the Parks and Community Service department took park in HEB reads and handed out Sandy Candy. This event was a hit. • Elizabeth Johnson gave huge praise to Michael Radoyevich, Cayden Bozeman and staff for a smooth opening at the Aquatic Park on Memorial Day. 884 people came through the gate on Memorial Day. • Elizabeth Johnson stated that Summer Camp kicked off today, June 06, 2022. 70+ kids are expected to come through the camp each week. There will be no travel but there will be entertainment that comes to them. Throughout the weeks of camp, they will have a Game truck, Lego truck and Petting Zoo. b. Parks Report — Ryan Turner Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 Ryan Turner reported on a few projects going on throughout the City parks. A new water fountain with a bottom bow for Dogs was installed at Trailwood. The Parks department installed playground mulch at Bob Eden. Ryan Turner let the Board know that the resurfacing of the tennis courts at Bob Eden have experienced rain delays and should be complete by June 8, 2022. Ryan Turner reported on the trail marker signs that have been installed. We have added signage in 14 different locations and have a total of 30 signs to address courtesy use of our trails. c. Director's Report — Ray McDonald • Ray McDonald addressed the Park Board and let them know that the Aquatic Park will be open under modified hours. The Aquatic Park will be open from 12p-7p. • Ray McDonald wanted the Park Board to know that the commitment to the Aquatic Parks is unmatched by his staff and the staff has worked many hours making sure all employees are trained. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. IIII. Other New Business • No new business to report. V. Input from City Council Members and Visitors • Council Member Jeremy Tompkins let the Park Board know about the Town Hall meeting that will be taking place on June 09, 2022.
