HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-06-13Historical Preservation Committee Minutes June 13, 2022 Chairperson Suzy McCormick called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. The meeting was held at the Heritage Museum, Euless. She extended a welcome to the attendees. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Weldon Cannon, Patsy Hoover, Mary Hunt, Keith Jernigan, Marilyn Long, Suzy McCormick, Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Peggy Vandiver, and Mavy Wright. i STAFF PRESENT Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald and Parks and Community Services Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. VISITORS PRESENT Chrystal Riddell. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Gary Parker made a motion to accept the May 9, 2022 minutes as written. Mavy Wright seconded the motion. With unanimous approval, Ms. McCormick stated the motion carried. I N 1111MIVIIJ 1111:1 'l: Treasurer Mavy Wright advised that the balance as of May 9, 2022 was $8,429.50. A deposit of $113.42 was made ($40 was collected in the money jar at the May meeting and $73.42 was donated after a recent tour). There was an expenditure of $402.50 for the memorial plaque for Helen Voss and Iris Elliott. The ending balance is $8,140.52. I STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment—the volunteer signup sheets were circulated for the July, August, and September Heritage Park Open Houses for the hours of Noon until 4pm. There were 12 visitors to the June Open House. Mr. McDonald stated that the recent Town Hall generated interest in the museum and the HPC thanks to a comment made by Anniece McKanna. Ms. Riddell who attended the Town Hall is involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and inquired about the docent duties and volunteering. There was a discussion about the Docent Packet and if it was still being HPC MTG 06132022 Page 1 of 3 distributed to new members. It appears to be needing updates before it is reprinted and circulated. Mr. Cannon mentioned we reexamine the HPC goals and accomplishments; he stated he would be glad to coordinate the project and requested input from our members. 2. Acquisition —no report. 3. Facebook—no report. It was mentioned that we are still not able to access the Facebook group in order to post events and news. 4. Plaque —Ms. Wright stated the memorial plaque has been completed for Helen Voss and i! Iris Elliott. With the passing of O.D. Lively, members can bring donations to the September meeting or give to her for a memorial plaque. 5. Display Signs—Mavy Wright stated there are no signs available yet. 6. Publicity/ Program/Speakers—Mavy Wright had nothing to report. � 7. Historical Albums —it was recommended this committee be placed on as -needed basis I 8. Heritage Park —Mr. Parker had no report. 9. Artifact Recovery —No report. Ms. McCormick indicated she would assist with items in the possession of Andy Weinzapfel since he is no longer able to serve on this committee. 10. Historical Tree Program— Mr. McDonald stated the tree in McCormick Park has been removed. Dan Dearborn (from Parks staff) will be milling the wood into a mock outhouse for Heritage Park. Mr. Dearborn is seeking old hinges. 11. Inventory —No report. However, Keith Jernigan brought a WWII letter from his father that he had mentioned at the last meeting. The letter has been translated into English and will be donated to the military room at our next meeting. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT - No report STAFF REPORT - No report COMMITTEE REPORT/INPUT 1. Anniece McKanna relayed a recent visit to a hometown museum in Saint Jo. HPC MTG 06132022 Page 2 of 3 2. Mary Hunt and Keith Jernigan stated there needed to be a replenishment of Euless pamphlets for visitors. They also inquired as to the original Elisha Euless family and if any family members remained. 3. There was a discussion into updating the revised Open House hours on printed materials, signage, and website to show Noon to 4pm. 4. Mr. Cannon stated he was able to attend our June meeting due to his attendance at an event at the Bear Creek Cemetery over the weekend. He added that he had recently visited with several of our members who have been unable to attend our meetings. There is so much history in their memories that needs to be documented. ADJOURNMENT Mr. Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by Peggy Vandiver.
