HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-08-01Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board August 01, 2022 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m.. On Monday, August, 01, 2022, in the Pre Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Jones. Other Board Members present: Magen Brown, Steve Doty, John Raab, Jason Reyes, Roger Sickler, Kay Seger, Isha Sharma. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Recreation Superintendent Elizabeth Johnson, Parks Manager Daniel Dearborn and Administrative Secretary Jodie Dunn. Visitors present: Council Member Jeremy Tompkins INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the June 06, 2022 regular meeting. Roger Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by John Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for June 1st — 30th, 2022: a. Total man hours June 1st — 30th. 2022 = 423 ➢ 230 Horticulture ➢ 148 Forestry ➢ 21 Greenhouse ➢ 0 Special Projects ➢ 24 Training ➢ Added playground mulch to Midway Park, VOBC, and The Preserve playgrounds ➢ Removed dead tree at City Hall ➢ Spray for weeds on Greenbelt Trail, Trojan Trail concrete medians, PD and Pipeline ➢ Power washed tables/pavilions at VOVC, Midway Park, and J.A. Carr Park ➢ Trimmed bushes around Fire Station #3 ➢ Trimmed back Midway Park ditch ➢ Trimmed trees inside dog park, cut down dead tree ➢ Trimmed shrubs at Animal Control ➢ Added red mulch to Simmons, DQ Corner, Mid -Cities ➢ Replaced broken boards at South Euless bridge ➢ Trimmed all 42 trees pm Bear Creel Pkwy median between 183 and Harwood ➢ Stump grinded at West McCormick, City Hall, and J.A. Carr Park ➢ Dirt work around Bob Eden playground and tennis courts ➢ Installed Sod around Bob Eden playground ➢ Added trail product to VOBC trails ➢ Trimmed trees along trail from Main St. to Heritage b. Total man hours for July 1st— 31st = 327 • 181 Horticulture • 131 Forestry • 15 Greenhouse • 0 Special Projects • 0 Training • Tree work at J.A. Carr park • Installed new slide at VOBC • Trimmed suckers on Hwy 10, Mid Cities medians • Put out trail product at Heritage Park • Stump grinded at Main St. gazebo • Trimmed trees along trail at The Preserve and McCormick • Added playground surfacing to McCormick Park playground Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 • Trimmed and cleaned up Main St. Medians • Trimmed trees at Bob Eden, road to nowhere • Installed new shade shelter at Bob Eden and Midway Ill. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report — Elizabeth Johnson • Elizabeth Johnson recognized Shelli Walsh to the Park Board for earning Employee of the Month. Many members of the Senior Center supported Shelli at the City Council meeting that was held on June 28, 2022. • Elizabeth Johnson reported on the July 4th celebration that was held in the Senior Center ballroom and on the patio. 75 Seniors were in attendance and had lunch and line dancing. • Elizabeth Johnson informed the Board of the June Father's Day car show where about 100 Seniors viewed cars and had lunch. • Elizabeth Johnson reported that June 2"d the Seniors took a Field trip to have brunch and watch the Texas Rangers play Tampa Bay. • Elizabeth Johnson reported that August 7th would be the last week that the Aquatic Park would be open during the week. As of the morning of August 1st 41,768 patrons had attended the Aquatic Park. b. Parks Report — Daniel Dearborn • Daniel Dearborn reported on the vandalism that occurred at VOBC. Several areas at the park were vandalized and the Parks Department was able to remove the paint the next day. • Daniel Dearborn reported on the new sod that was placed at Bob Eden. • Daniel Dearborn reported on the shade shelters that were placed at Midway Park as well as the shade area that was installed near the volleyball courts at Bob Eden Park. c. Community Service Report — Ray McDonald • Ray McDonald reported on adopting the budget for FY2023 pending approval. • Ray McDonald gave an overview on the projects that are set to take place starting in October with the new fiscal year. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 3 IIII. Other New Business No new business to report. V. Input from City Council Members and Visitors Council Member Jeremy Tompkins stated that he was thankful that the board raises a voice to let Ray McDonald know what the community needs.
