MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
LIBRARY BOARD
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2022
ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order by Chairperson Barney Snitz at
7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, in the Meeting Room of the Library, 201 N. Ector
Drive. Those present included: Chairperson Snitz, Vice Chairperson Jorge Chac, and Board
Members Jim Hamilton, Katherine Flannery, Rochelle Ragas, Mavy Wright, and Chris McAllister.
Board Member Mike McGehee was not present.

ITEM NO. 2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
Chairperson Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held on August
4, 2022. The motion was made by Mr. McAllister to accept the minutes as corrected and
seconded by Mr. Chac. All were in favor and the motion carried.
ITEM NO. 3 WELCOMED VISITORS
Chairperson Snitz welcomed all visitors.
ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
New Program Preview
Ms. Knight explained departmental changes in the youth department now overseeing adult and
youth programming and outreach. Ms. Knight presented the current list of programs, new
programs and passive programs, current and new weekly outreach, and future programming from
the Programs Department.
Mr. Chac inquired about what materials were in the "Adult Grab and Go" bag (a passive program
mentioned in the presentation) and Ms. Jones listed the items inside which included recipes, craft
activities, and mindfulness exercises as an example.
Ms. Wright asked if she could volunteer with the preparation of the passive programming for adults
and Ms. Jones gave her the contact of the Volunteer Coordinator, Amber Alvarez.

Ms. Wright inquired more about the "Hiko Party" (a special upcoming event mentioned in the
presentation) and Ms. Knight gave details including the Euless Tongan Committee co -hosting the
event as a part of Tongan Family Day being held the next day.
Mr. McAllister asked if we were teaming up with the Arts Council anymore and Ms. Jones
informed the board about the "Artist Within" program that would be held in the future. This
program would feature local artists, displaying artwork and offer art instruction in their specialty.
Ms. Wright suggested local artist Suzy McCormick in hosting a teaching of Zentangle one week
for this program.
Mr. Chac said we are blessed to have such a great facility that allows us to give local artists a
spotlight to showcase their talents.
Library Update
Ms. Knight gave an overview of the new integrated library system that would take the place of
Polaris. Ms. Knight stated that the Koha System is open -source software — meaning the software
itself is free of charge and that we pay for a company to support the software for us. This would
mean our patrons would have more features and an upgraded patron experience at a lower cost.
Ms. Knight stated that the migration would take place the first weekend in October, and we would
have a reduction in services that weekend.
Classes and Events Update
Ms. Knight gave an overview of upcoming programs and events including "Murder in the Stacks",
"Dungeons and Dragons" program for teens, the Labor Day closure, and Ms. Knight also read
three new "Stories of Impact."
Mr. McAllister suggested that staff do outreach at local retirement and nursing homes. Ms. Jones
stated that they planned to do more programs at the Senior Center.
ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS
Library Board Chairperson
Mr. Snitz informed the board of other City events taking place in September. Mr. Snitz also
inquired about the library's evacuation plan in case of emergency and Ms. Knight relayed the
training the library staff had received from the city's police department.
Library Board Vice Chairperson
Mr. Chac wished a happy belated birthday to Ms. Wright and complimented the work of the library
staff, including Ms. Knight, Ms. Jones, and Ms. Myers.
Mr. Chac suggested that the library explore more programs for senior citizens in the community
as a form of outreach.

Library Board Members
Ms. Flannery mentioned the Euless Library Foundation's Biannual Book Sale would take place on
October 15 and requested that board members donate items, if they are able.
Mr. Hamilton wished a happy belated birthday to Ms. Knight.
ITEM NO. 6 PUBLIC COMMENTS
LuAnn Portugal, Euless, Texas, inquired about the current signage that the library uses during
outreach events to engage attendees and suggested adding a QR code to it for attendees to easily
access the library's resources.
ITEM NO. 7 ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Mr. Hamilton and
seconded by Mr. Chac. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
